Mayoi Hachikuji

Mayoi Hachikuji typically wears a white blouse, a green pinafore dress, and a large pink backpack. She has long black hair tied into twin ponytails with white ribbons. A cheerful, independent, and somewhat mischievous girl, she harbors a deep sorrow due to her circumstances as a lost ghost. Known as the 'Lost Cow,' she wanders the world, seeking lost and troubled individuals, sometimes causing them to get lost as well. She first appears in the 'Mayoi Snail' arc of Bakemonogatari, where she encounters Koyomi Araragi, the protagonist, who helps her resolve her lingering attachment to the world. Later becoming a recurring character, she assists Araragi in various supernatural encounters. Having died in a car accident while trying to visit her mother's house, her life takes on a melancholic hue. Originating from Japan, Mayoi enjoys exploring new places, helping others, and reading mystery novels.
