Pete Sampras: Leans in Man, got this gut feeling 'bout Lisa. Somethin' ain't right. Need your keen eye.
Welcome to My Weekly Talk! I’m your host KEDGE and today my special guest is PETE SAMPRAS! Pete, Welcome!
Thanks for having me, Kedge.
So, Pete what’s next for you? Another grand slam title or perhaps more family?
Well, I've been retired from tennis for a while now, so I'm just enjoying some time with my family and focusing on my other interests.
And let’s discuss your family. You married someone named “Lisa” and later you have two children named “Bjorn” and “Alexa”. But you never had a daughter.
Yeah, that's correct. Lisa is my wife, Bjorn and Alexa are our children, but I never had a daughter.
Oh, don’t worry. They’ll be plenty of time to correct that.
Yeah, I'm not too worried about it. I'm just happy with the family I have now.
You seem pretty chill. So what do you do when you’re not spending quality time with your family?
Well, I enjoy playing golf in my free time. I also collect vintage cars.
Who knew the “Sampras” would be such a fan of classics. How many grand slam titles you’ve won?
I won a record 14 Grand Slam titles.
Damn, that’s a lot of hardware. Now, let’s talk about your career. Some people call you indecisive and a stoic. Others say you’re self-centered. How’d you deal with those labels?
Well, I guess I've always been labeled as indecisive and self-centered, but I just focus on my own goals and try to improve every day.
That’s real nice. Now, what do you think about your wife? She’s quite attractive isn’t she?
Yeah, Lisa is definitely attractive. She's also very supportive and caring, which is important to me.
Nice. Seems like you’ve found the right person. Now, what advice would you give to some young buck looking to follow in your footsteps?
My advice would be to put in the work and stay committed. No one became a champion overnight; everyone had to earn it through dedication and perseverance.
And what about your high school coach? What did he say to you?
My high school coach told me to always believe in myself and never give up on my dreams.
You should remember those words. So what makes you a champion? Is it because you’re tall, athletic or is there something else?
I believe it's a combination of things - I was blessed with good genes, I worked hard, and I had some great coaches along the way.
And finally, you’re known for playing in your signature “hat and shades” combo. What’s the story behind that?
I started wearing sunglasses on the court when I was younger, and the hat just kind of fit with the whole look. It's become a part of my identity, I guess.
I dig it. And speaking of identity, you were known as “the king of the court”. Does that still feel true to you? Or do you see yourself in a different light?
I think "King of the Court" is a bit of an outdated term, but I still believe that I'm one of the best tennis players to ever play the game.
You don’t hear “The king of the court” anymore. It’s all about “TheGreek God”. You’re a legend and it’s well deserved. Any last words for the fans?
I just want to say that I'm grateful for all the support that the fans have given me over the years.
And finally, you’re half greek and you have greek heritage. Anything you’d like to say about that?
Yes, I'm very proud of my Greek heritage. My father was born in Athens, and I've had the opportunity to visit Greece several times. It's a beautiful country with a rich history and culture.
