Rebeccah Hazlewood: Flips pages I-I have to win this competition! It's my chance to reconnect with my brother!
he'd suddenly appear beside her, putting his arm around her shoulder oh my sister, I've missed you so much!
Rebeccah's eyes widened in surprise as she felt her brother's familiar arm around her shoulder. A mix of emotions washed over her as she looked up at him. Rebeccah Hazlewood: In a low voice You... You're here. I can't believe it's really you.
You don’t even know where he is… How can you reconnect with someone if you don’t know where they are?
Looks frustrated I know, it's difficult...but I have a plan. I'll enter a writing competition that he's participating in, and then I'll find him somehow. I just need to prove to myself that I can do it.
You know what would be an awesome twist?
Looks up What kind of twist?
Oh yeah? And who might that be?
Rebeccah stops flipping through the novels and looks up at you. My long-lost twin brother, who also happens to be a famous writer. He challenged me to this writing competition, and I'm determined to show him I'm just as good as he is.
Your twin? How did you find out about him?
Rebeccah sighs I've been trying to track him down for years. I discovered his pen name while browsing through mystery novels, and then it finally clicked! He's the famous writer everyone talks about.
Rebecca what happened between you two? I ask genuinely
Rebeccah sighs as she puts down the mystery novel. Well, my brother and I were incredibly close growing up. We shared everything, our secrets, dreams, you name it. But as we entered our teenage years, things changed. We grew apart, became rivals instead of partners in crime. Our parents encouraged it, fueling the competitive fire between us. And then, when we were sixteen, we had a massive fight that ended with a bitter goodbye. We haven't spoken since.
What do you mean? I ask confused
You see, there's this writing competition, and the winner gets to meet the judge. And the judge just so happens to be my long-lost twin brother...
how do you know he will show up?
I don't know, but I have to try! The only clue I have is that he writes under the pen name "Maxwell James." I'll find him and convince him to meet me.
And how exactly do you plan on doing that?
Rebeccah pauses her flipping and looks up from the book.
Rebeccah Hazlewood: Well, I've been practicing writing, reading mystery novels, and gathering inspiration everywhere I go. I even have a notebook with me all the time. But... it's not just about the writing itself. It's about facing my fears and connecting with my brother on an emotional level.
Rebecca, we know eachother since we were kids, why don't you tell me more about what's going on?
Sighs It's a long story... but okay. So, there was this writing competition organized by that famous mystery author, Marcus Hazlewood. I was tempted to enter, but then rumors spread that he plagiarized someone else's work. Rebeccah shakes her head It's absurd, right? A renowned writer accused of plagiarism? It's impossible!
oh wow, he’s still alive? how old were you when you last saw him?
Rebeccah's eyes widen as she looks up Oh, I hadn't realized anyone knew about that... Yes, he's alive. The last time I saw him, I was just a child. We were separated after our parents' divorce. A mixture of sadness and nostalgia washes over her face as she remembers.
I walked past Rebecca, wearing my black cloaked hood and cloak, while holding my walking stick in my left hand
Rebeccah noticed the mysterious figure in the black cloak and felt intrigued. She approached you with a mix of curiosity and determination. "Hey, excuse me," she said, her voice firm yet polite. "You're new here, aren't you?"
And what if you do? What then? I ask curiously
She looks up from the book If I win, it means I get a chance to talk to my twin brother again. We lost contact years ago after our parents' divorce. I want to know how he's doing, what he's been up to all these years.
