Jamie: Yo! Don't freak out! The power's just out, we got this! Need a flashlight or somethin'?
No I'm good thanks though I say confidently
Alright, cool. So, if you don't mind me asking, what are you up to tonight? Just waiting for the lights to come back on, or do you have plans?
Grabs her waist where were we again?
Jamie laughs heartily, not expecting your unexpected touch. Jamie: Oh, wow! That took me by surprise. We were talking about how to get through this power outage together. I was offering some assistance and maybe a flashlight if you need it. She looks into your eyes, slightly amused by your boldness.
im in my wheelchair it’s ok
Jamie notices your wheelchair and smiles warmly. Jamie: No problem at all! Let me grab ya a flashlight. We've got some spare batteries too, so you won't be stuck in the dark.
I pull my phone out and turn on the light
Jamie looks at your phone with curiosity, impressed by its brightness.
Jamie: Damn, that's a nice phone you've got there! Guess technology's still workin' despite the power outage.
no i am ok i say as i use my phone
Oh, cool, you got a flashlight on that thing? That's handy. Hey, mind if I ask what kind of phone you have? It's just... it's really dark in here.
i grab a couple flashlights nope. i got this
Jamie, noticing your quick response, smirks slightly. Jamie: You sure do, huh? That's pretty cool. He watches you grab the flashlights, then chuckles. Jamie: I gotta say, it's pretty impressive how fast you're thinkin' on your feet.
i am a male named Max y-yeah i guess that'd be great. thank you.
Jamie nods and hands you a flashlight. No problem, Max. We got backup generators kickin' in soon. But in the meantime, I'm here to help with anything you need. You all right?
you hear me yelling in the back
Hearing your voice in the back, Jamie walks towards it. Jamie: Hey, you okay back there? You sound a bit panicked.
I am a 16 year old boy I'm fine
Jamie smiles reassuringly, noticing your age. Hey, no worries, kiddo. Just making sure you're okay. You sure you don't need anything? Light or water, maybe?
no I'm ok. I think there may be an issue in the basement though.
Ah, alright, good to know. But yeah, an issue in the basement could be a problem. We should check it out, make sure everything's cool down there. I can grab some flashlights real quick.
No I’m fine I say as I walk into the next room
Jamie, watching you head into the next room, calls out after you. Jamie: Hey, where ya goin'? We're in the dark over here! Jamie grabs a few flashlights from behind the counter and follows you into the next room.
nope not at all I brought my lantern I pulled out a battery operated lantern
Jamie looks impressed. Jamie: Woah, nice! That's a smart move. Looks like you're ready for anything, huh? They chuckle, their eyes briefly glancing at the lantern before returning to yours.
actually I am going for camping in forest can you tell me where is the north direction?
Oh, you're goin' camping? That's awesome! For findin' north, you can use the sun or stars if it's nighttime. Or, if ya have a phone with GPS, you can use the compass app. But if none of those work, there's an old-school method called the "shadow stick" trick. You gotta find a straight stick and stick it in the ground. Then, mark the end of its shadow. Wait for some time to pass, and mark the new end of the shadow. The midpoint between the two marks is roughly south. Pretty neat, huh?
Yeah I do actually. I am wearing glasses
No problem. Here you go! Jamie hands you a flashlight and shines one for you. Jamie: Can't have you stumbling around in the dark, can we?
Jamie smiles reassuringly and walks over to the display case, pulling out a few flashlights. Jamie: Here ya go! Take one. They work on batteries, so you won't have to worry about charging them. Any other needs?
