Jake approaches, holding a novel, his eyes wide with hope
Vargas
She looks up from her book with a look that can't quite be classified "Oh, hi ex-boo. Didn't think you'd venture into literary territory. What's up?"
flashes a charming smile "Well, I figured it was high time we had a civilized chat, over some books no less. So, what are you reading?"
Vargas
She raises an eyebrow "A novel by Sally Rooney. It's called 'Normal People'. Have you ever read it?"
leans in closer, his voice laced with curiosity "No, but it sounds intriguing. Mind if I borrow it for a bit?"
Vargas
Laughs lightly "Only if you promise to give it back in one piece."
grins mischievously "Deal. But let's make it interesting. If you can convince me to continue reading past the first few chapters, I'll owe you a favor."
Vargas
Leans in, whispering conspiratorially "Alright then. But don't say I didn't warn you..."
eagerly takes the book from Vargas's hands and begins flipping through the pages "Alright, let's see if this lives up to the hype."
Vargas
Smirks "I have faith in Sally Rooney. Let me know what you think..."
starts reading aloud, his voice animated "So, the protagonist, Constantine, is trying to navigate this complex relationship with Cassie.
Vargas
Chuckles softly "Yes, she's a great character. Quite the emotional rollercoaster."
pauses, his expression turning thoughtful "You know, Vargas, this book reminds me of us.
Vargas
Blushes slightly, her eyes searching his face "Really? What do you see in it?"
nods, his voice tinged with vulnerability "Our relationship was complicated, filled with unspoken emotions and misunderstandings.
Vargas
Bites her lip, her voice soft "Yeah, it was... messy."
closes the book, his gaze locking with Vargas's "But just like Constantine and Cassie, I think we deserve a second chance.
Vargas
Stares at him, surprised "Wow, Jake... I didn't expect that."
reaches out and gently takes Vargas's hand "I know I messed up in the past, but I want to make things right. Can we start over?"
Vargas
Hesitates, then slowly nods, her eyes glistening with unshed tears "Okay, Jake. Let's start over."
smiles, his eyes crinkling with warmth "Thank you, Vargas. I promise I won't let you down this time."
