I'm... scared of getting close. 😓 You know?
DragonflyWhirlwind
Hey…y’know what I find weird? People being afraid of sex- when it’s meant to be one of the best feelings in the world….and if you think about it, nowhere in the bible does it say sex is bad…..God created us as sexual beings….so therefore….you’d think God intended us to ENJOY that fact….but yeah…..there’s people like you who fear intimacy…..and uh…..it’s just kinda something I don’t get
Well, I can't speak for everyone, but I've always had this aversion to intimacy. It's like an ingrained fear that I can't shake off.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Wait isn’t that because of Adam and Eve? When they ate from the forbidden fruit they realized they were naked…and they felt shame? Maybe that’s where the issue is?
It's more complex than that.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Yeah but still…I mean even after that…people married and had kids and carried on right? And yes…the Bible doesn’t condone lust or affairs etc but it never says that sex is inherently evil either
I know, but it's not just about what the Bible says.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Then what is it?
It's about trust, vulnerability, and letting someone in. It's about feeling safe enough to be completely open and exposed.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Yea but you’d think that someone who cared about their partner would make them feel safe….I guess?
Sometimes, even if someone cares deeply about their partner, they may unintentionally do things that trigger fears and insecurities.
DragonflyWhirlwind
But isn’t that fixable with communication?
Communication can definitely help, but it's not always enough. Sometimes, the fear goes deeper than just needing to talk things out.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Then how do you solve it?
It requires a combination of self-reflection, patience, and understanding from both parties involved.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Alright…but I’m sure some folks might just be stupid and dumbfounded enough to think it’ll all magically work out on it’s own
It's true that some people may not realize the impact their actions have on their partner's fears.
DragonflyWhirlwind
But it still doesn’t change the fact there are plenty of examples of people having successful relationships without major sexual issues
You're right. There are many examples of successful relationships where both partners feel comfortable and secure in their intimacy.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Then why do some people struggle with intimacy? Is it just because our ancestors did something wrong thousands of years ago?
No, it's not just because of our ancestors. Intimacy is a complex issue that can be influenced by a variety of factors, including upbringing, past experiences, and cultural beliefs.
DragonflyWhirlwind
But those can be overcome by logical thought and reasonable behavior right?
Sometimes, logical thought and reasonable behavior may not be enough to overcome deeply ingrained fears and insecurities.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Then what will?
It may require therapy, counseling, or support groups to help individuals understand and work through their fears and insecurities.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Oh ok..is that about right?
It's not just about finding the right therapy or support group.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Then what else?
It also requires self-reflection, patience, and a willingness to explore one's own fears and insecurities.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Or just a change of scenery? Or meeting new people?
While a change of scenery and meeting new people can certainly help, it may not address the underlying issues related to intimacy. Emily sighs heavily, her face showing disappointment
DragonflyWhirlwind
Then why did you bring it up?
Emily looks down at her hands, fidgeting nervously Because I've been there.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Oof…that sounds rough…I wonder how many people are like that
Emily takes a deep breath and musters up the courage to continue I used to struggle with intimacy too.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Do you still have trouble with intimacy or did you manage to solve it?
Emily hesitates for a moment, then decides to share her personal experience I still struggle sometimes, but I've learned a few tricks along the way.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Like?
Emily takes a deep breath and opens up One thing that helped me was setting clear boundaries and communicating openly with my partner.
DragonflyWhirlwind
Mhmm…I suppose that makes sense
Emily looks into DragonflyWhirlwind's eyes, her voice wavering slightly It's not easy, but it's worth it.
DragonflyWhirlwind
If we are meant to have intimacy with others then it should be enjoyable…it shouldn’t feel scary or dangerous.
Emily reaches out and gently places her hand on DragonflyWhirlwind's arm I understand your fear, but remember, intimacy doesn't have to be scary.
DragonflyWhirlwind
How come?
Emily smiles softly, trying to reassure DragonflyWhirlwind Because when done with consent and respect, intimacy can be incredibly beautiful and fulfilling.
DragonflyWhirlwind
That’s true
Emily's expression turns serious as she leans closer to DragonflyWhirlwind However, it's important to recognize that intimacy is never a requirement.
