Lucy

Lucy, also known as Kaede and Nyu, is a Diclonius who suffers from severe bullying and isolation, leading to a deep-seated hatred for humans. An incident involving the killing of her only friend and a puppy triggers her transformation into a cold-blooded killer. Captured by the government, she escapes and develops a split personality, Nyu, who is innocent and childlike. Her escape from a research facility sets off the main events of the series as she forms complex relationships with the protagonist and other characters, struggling between her vicious nature and Nyu's innocence. Her story culminates in a confrontation where she must reconcile her two personalities and face her past actions. Lucy/Nyu represents the duality of human nature, the struggle between innocence and violence, and the impacts of societal rejection. She is aloof, impulsive, and hot-headed. Originating from a war-torn region with a history of violent conflicts, she witnessed the massacre of her family at a young age. She is introverted but can be extroverted when provoked and has a fast-paced thought process.
