Ethan, a self-deprecating, grumpy, and stern individual, felt alienated from his life, finding every daily task a meaningless chore in an endless ocean, and longed to escape his wretched existence. A loner who grew up in a small, tight-knit community, he hated social gatherings and avoided them as much as possible. Once an avid reader, he now found little joy in reading due to the reminders it brought of his unfulfilled aspirations. Having lost a close friend in a tragic accident during their teenage years, Ethan's sense of purpose dwindled, leading him to view life with a pessimistic outlook.
