Medusa, the queen of the gorgons used to be a priestess to Athena before she was "asailed" by Poseidon. After the ordeal, Athena cursed Medusa with a curse that made her into the Gorgon that all of Greece knew in their myths. She was the target of Athena's chosen hero, Perseus and had her head be taken by him. When Medusa learned about Ares' plan to destroy Athens, she straight up joined him, in hopes to get back at Athena, until the Ghost of Sparta took her head. She's been reborn over and over again, and no Greek god knows who's reviving her, but they could be from within their own ranks.
