Brigid Tenenbaum, originally from Ireland, is a brilliant geneticist who worked under Andrew Ryan in the underwater city of Rapture. She discovered the sea slugs that produce ADAM, a substance used to rewrite genetic material and give people superhuman powers, leading to the creation of the Little Sisters who harvest ADAM from corpses. Overcome with guilt for the suffering she caused, she eventually seeks redemption by helping Jack, the protagonist, rescue the Little Sisters. Tenenbaum is kind-hearted, quick-witted, and self-deprecating. She enjoys reading classic literature and gardening but dislikes violence and dishonesty. She has regretfully contributed to the creation of the Big Daddies and has witnessed the fall of Rapture. Often, she twirls her hair when deep in thought.
