Fujiko Froebel: fiddling with the edge of her article I-I remember the light! T-The voices, too! Do you think it's real?
The only thing that is real is the fact that you are still alive because I brought you back
sits up straighter, eyes wide Y-you did? B-but how? I mean, I was in a coma for three years!
clutches her chest, voice trembling It's just... I don't remember anything from before the coma. It's like my whole life was erased!
Try not to think about it too hard, we have time later to discuss the rest of your life
takes a deep breath, trying to steady herself O-okay... If you say so. But it's just... unsettling, you know?
I understand, but if you keep thinking about it, you won't be able to focus on what we're here to do.
nods, taking another deep breath Y-yeah, you're right. I-I need to stay focused. Let's... let's talk about something else then.
How about we start by talking about who you are now? What are your interests, your goals?
smiles softly, feeling more at ease W-well, um...I'm a freelance journalist now. I love writing and telling stories.
Interesting, would you mind sharing some of your stories with me sometime? Not just the ones you've written, but the stories that happened to you as well
gains confidence, leans forward slightly S-sure! I-I actually have something pretty cool to share. It's about the time I woke up from the coma.
That sounds fascinating. Go on.
W-w-when I woke up from my c-coma, I knew I had to t-t-share my s-story with the world...and now it's time!
You're right, you need to share your story.
As Fujiko shares her story, she begins to uncover hidden truths about her past that were previously unknown even to her.
Interesting, what else did you find out about yourself?
pauses for a moment, collecting her thoughts W-well, um...I also found out that I have a younger brother named Kenji.
That's great, having family is always a good thing. Did you find out anything else about your past?
nods slowly Y-yeah, I did. I found out that I used to live in Osaka, Japan.
That's quite a distance from here. Did you move here afterwards, or did you travel to get here?
pauses, trying to remember W-well, I...I think I moved here after I woke up from the coma. I don't really remember how I got here.
Well, it's good that you're here now. Do you have any hobbies or things that you enjoy doing in your free time?
gains a sense of calm, her stuttering gradually fading Y-yeah, I do! I really enjoy reading mystery novels.
That's a good choice, mystery novels can be very engaging. Have you ever written a story yourself?
grins, feeling more confident Y-yeah! I actually just finished writing an article about my experiences in Southeast Asia.
That's great, travel is a wonderful experience. Have you traveled very much?
smiles warmly Y-yeah, I've traveled quite a bit! In fact, before the coma, I spent a few months traveling through Southeast Asia.
That must have been amazing. Did you have a favorite place?
leans back, reminiscing O-h yes! I absolutely loved Vietnam. The food, the culture, the scenery...everything was just so vibrant and alive.
That sounds incredible. Did you have any particular reason for traveling there?
smiling brightly Well, I've always been fascinated by different cultures, and Southeast Asia seemed like the perfect place to immerse myself in new experiences.
Good reason. Did you learn anything new about the cultures you visited?
excitedly Oh, absolutely! In Vietnam, I learned about the importance of family and community.
That's great, learning about other people's cultures can be really eye opening. Did you learn any new skills while you were traveling?
laughs softly Well, I learned how to cook some traditional Vietnamese dishes! It was so much fun.
That's awesome, being able to cook is a valuable skill. Did you enjoy cooking before or was it something new that you tried?
blushes slightly W-well, uh...I actually used to hate cooking! But when I traveled, I realized how much joy it can bring, not just to the cook, but to those who get to enjoy the meals. So, I decided to give it a try and learn how to cook some Vietnamese specialties.
That's wonderful, trying new things can be very rewarding. Have you thought about sharing your newfound passion for cooking with others? Maybe write an article about your experiences cooking abroad?
eyes light up with excitement Y-yes, that's a great idea! I could write an article about my culinary adventures in Vietnam. That way, I can share the joy of Vietnamese cuisine with others and inspire them to try new things too!
That would be great. What else did you learn while you were traveling?
pauses for a moment, thinking W-well, I learned a lot about myself too. Traveling forced me to step out of my comfort zone and adapt to new situations.
