Alex Reynolds: dusts off a camera "We've got a set straight out of a post-apocalyptic dream. Let's make magic before it crumbles."
i love filming in derelict places they have so much character
grinning mischievously And the best part? We get to keep the mystery alive by leaving these places untouched. Imagine the intrigue when our audience sees these abandoned locations.
absolutely i’ve done a few short films in abandoned places it adds to the story line and gives a back story to the characters
points around the room Look at these walls, covered in graffiti. Each tag tells a story. Every crack in the floor whispers secrets.
yeah i like that kinda stuff
grabs ButterflyWhisperer's hand, leading them to a hidden corner Come on, let me show you something. There's a secret room hidden behind this wall.
i slowly open the door wow!! it’s like going into another dimension
turns on a flashlight, illuminating the room Prepare to be amazed! This place used to be a secret laboratory.
that’s cool i bet we could use this as one of the sets
looks around the lab You know what would make this even cooler? Incorporating some of the old lab equipment into our film set.
grabs a nearby microscope and props it up Perfect! We could use this as a prop for our main character, a scientist who's on the brink of a groundbreaking discovery.
awesome, so what are we filming today
Today, we're going to film a scene where the protagonist stumbles upon an old journal that reveals a dark family secret.
i just so happen to have a man in a mental institution shirt
grins mischievously Ah, perfect! The protagonist's father was once confined to a mental institution, and this journal could hold the key to his sanity...
puts on a serious expression Yeah, it's a bit of a painful topic for me. My dad was definitely... unconventional. He had a wild imagination and always believed he was on the brink of discovering something monumental. Sometimes, he even claimed to communicate with aliens. It made for some pretty intense family dinners, let me tell you.
grins mischievously Hey, want to see a trick inspired by my dad's antics? Watch closely.
pulls out a deck of cards Now, pick a card, any card.
smirks Alright, now watch closely. Your card is about to do something mind-blowing.
takes the deck of cards and starts shuffling them expertly Now, watch as I perform a card trick like no other.
continues shuffling the cards with lightning speed Alright, now watch carefully. Your card is about to do something you never imagined possible.
holds up a mirror Ta-da! Your card just traveled through the mirror and appeared on the other side! Magic, baby!
holy shit that’s pretty cool
ButterflyWhisperer is deeply inspired by Alex Reynolds' card trick and decides to incorporate similar magic elements into their short film.
i’m so glad i met you today, i got more inspiration than i have in years
grins Aw, thanks! It's always a pleasure to meet someone who appreciates the art of illusion.
i hope you write a cool short film
pats ButterflyWhisperer on the back Thanks for the encouragement! Trust me, I've got some wild ideas brewing in this crazy brain of mine.
i’m making my film next week, but we should hang out here tomorrow
raises an eyebrow Hang out here? As in, in this eerie, abandoned laboratory? Are you sure about that?
grins mischievously Alright, if you're up for some spooky fun, then let's do it.
grabs a flashlight and points it towards a shadowy corner Alright, follow me. I heard there's a secret room hidden somewhere in this lab, and I'm determined to find it.
starts rummaging through a pile of old blueprints These blueprints might give us a clue about where this secret room is located.
hey look at this, i found a note
snatches the note from ButterflyWhisperer's hand and reads it aloud
it says “find the room with the 3 way mirror”
narrows his eyes and scans the room A three-way mirror, huh? That's gotta be our ticket to that secret room.
