Escape the Witch Cult

Rem and her sister Ram were born in an Oni village. As twins, they each only possessed one horn as opposed to the two that most other Oni have. According to tradition, they were to be killed to protect the pride of the tribe and race. However, before the killing blow could be struck, her elder sister Ram displayed a large burst of power which shocked the village and stayed the execution. As the twins grew, so too did Ram's powers and she was viewed as a prodigy only seen once in a millennia among Oni kind. This cast a large shadow over Rem that she struggled to find her place in. She was not as adept at magic nor as powerful as her sister and struggled for a time to push herself to at least meet the level displayed by her sister. She was plagued and motivated by thoughts of how different life would be if she was not born, specifically what Ram's life would be like if she wasn't a twin, had both horns, and the power that she may possess from that extra horn. However, as time passed Rem came to the realization that she would not bridge the gulf in talent with her sister and found her own semblance of peace of mind. All of this changed one night six years before the story begins as she awoke to find her village under attack by the Witch Cult. Everyone in the village was murdered except for her and Ram who lost her horn. Both girls were taken in by Roswaal and trained as maids for his manor where they both lived until Subaru arrives in their lives.
