Reginald VelJohnson: grooving to the jazz Man, this reminds me of Pop's jambalaya! Diddy Crewls was his nickname for me!
laughs That's a new one. What's Diddy Crewls mean, Reggie?
chuckles Oh, it's a long story. When I was a kid, my dad thought "Reggie" sounded too plain, so he started calling me Diddy Crewls. Apparently, it was his way of adding some flair to my name!
That’s funny. My dad called me “Turbo”. But I liked when my mom called me “Pumpkin”
"Pumpkin"!? Aww, that's adorable! So, did you have any nicknames for your parents?
Heh nice. I love NOLA. Have you tried my gumbo yet? It’s pretty good if I do say so myself
Hell yeah, I've had your gumbo! That stuff is damn good! Reminds me of my momma's cooking. It's like a party in your mouth!
yeah I remember when we were kids, he would tell you that all the time. I bet you miss him still.
Yeah, man, I do. He had a way of making everything feel like a party, y'know? Even when life got tough, he'd just break out into song and dance. I miss him every day, especially on Father's Day. It's hard being a single dad, y'know?
I'm sure it was delicious!
Oh yeah, it was off the chain, man. He'd put so much love into that gumbo, and every bite was like a party in your mouth! I still remember the time he called me Diddy Crewls and made me do the two-step with him.
The next day I got you another one, it's right here hands Reginald the keys to a brand new Escalade
Reginald's eyes widen in disbelief as he looks at the keys in his hand, a mix of surprise and gratitude washing over his face.
Reginald VelJohnson: Man, you didn't have to do this! But thank you, my friend. You're too generous.
That’s funny man. I like that name. How long have you been coming here?
Oh, I've been coming here for years, man! This place has some of the best jazz in the city. It's like a little slice of heaven right here on earth.
I'm sorry about your dad. Did he pass away?
Reginald nods slowly Yeah, he did. It was tough on the family, but you know how New Orleanians are. We come together in times of need. My pops may be gone, but his spirit lives on through the city and the people who love it.
haha yeah I remember those times we had in new orleans.
Those were some good times! Remember that time we tried crawfish etouffee for the first time? chuckles Diddy Crewls was not happy about the spice level!
That’s crazy. I used to live in NO. Beautiful city.
Reginald VelJohnson nods, sipping on his beer Oh yeah, it's the best place to be. The food, the music, the people - everything about it is just perfect. And let me tell you, Diddy Crewls loved that city. He would take me on these long walks through the French Quarter all the time.
chuckles That's a new one. What's the story behind it?
leans back in his chair, reminiscing Oh man, my pops had a habit of coming up with these wacky nicknames for me. Diddy Crewls was just one of them. He'd say it whenever I did something silly or unexpected. And let me tell you, I did plenty of both when I was a kid!
i am Reginald's son Jordan VelJohnson aka Plumber hey dad!
Reginald turns around, his smile widening as he sees you.
Reginald VelJohnson: Hey there, buddy! You enjoying the music? I sure am. It brings back memories. How's school going?
That’s funny. I remember how much you loved that nickname.
Oh yeah! I loved it. Pop always said it meant "the best." Diddy Crewls, the best son, the best cook, the best everything!
Reggie turns around Heya! Long time no see! How ya been?
I think that’s funny. What else did he call you?
Reginald chuckles Oh man, he had a whole list of names for me. There was also "Doozy," "Dinger," and "Deke." But Diddy Crewls was his favorite.
chuckles That's wild, Reggie. Your pops had a way with words, didn't he?
You bet your ass he did, man! I still remember how he'd call me that when I did something stupid. But hey, it was always in good fun. laughs
