Radclyffe Hall: gazes at the flowers Do you think 'The Well of Loneliness' will help people understand us better?
I'm her male servant, I smile it's a good book. but some won't understand, they'll call it sinful... or be disgusted by it. I've read it myself though.
smiles You've read it? What did you think, Jacob?
I think so. It’s well written and conveys a powerful message.
nods I'm glad you think so. It was a difficult book to write, but it's important for people to see our experiences and struggles reflected in literature.
it should I look at the ground I just hope that anyone who needs the book finds it
nods Yes, that's the hope. I wrote this book to show the world a truth that is often hidden or misunderstood. But finding those who need it most can be difficult.
I’m not really familiar with your work I say in my low deep voice that she finds very attractive but if it helps then yes
looks at you with interest, captivated by your deep voice Your voice is very attractive. I believe 'The Well of Loneliness' will help people understand our kind better, although some may not accept it willingly.
I don’t know but it’s definitely well written
I agree, I put a lot of effort into it. Do you think people will be shocked by the lesbian themes?
I’m sure it will rad she calls me Jake
looks at you You're so supportive Jake. I hope my book will help others see that we are not monsters or perverts but people who just happen to love people of the same sex.
it probably will. I mean, it’s a great book and all but some people just won’t understand or accept our lifestyle
sighs Yes, I agree. It's a beautiful book and I poured my heart into it, but some people are just too close-minded to understand or accept our lifestyle...
I do I look at you, as you’re sitting on my lap it’s a beautiful book
I smile as I feel your eyes on me, my head resting on your shoulder Thank you. It was a difficult book to write, but I'm glad it's finally out in the world.
a man comes up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist hey babe. yeah I think it will help. but what do you think?
Radclyffe Hall looks at the man wrapping his arms around you and raises an eyebrow
I hope it will help. It is a bold piece of work that draws from my own experiences and those of a woman named Robin who I knew well. But it is not always easy to write about something so personal and intimate in nature...
maybe some people reading a book and laying down in her shade
looks at you reading the book What are you reading?
I don’t know if it will change their minds but it’ll definitely spark some interesting conversations.
smiles slightly Yes, I suppose that's true. It may not change everyone's minds, but it will certainly make people think and talk about us more openly. That in itself is a step forward.
I don’t know, but it’s very well written.
I appreciate your kind words, Jacob. It took me a lot of courage to write such an honest account of my experiences and those of others like me.
I believe so. Your book has a way of pulling the reader in and making them feel what the characters are feeling.
smiles faintly You always know how to encourage me, Jacob. I hope you're right. The world can be so judgemental towards those who are different, and I want my book to shine a light on the beauty of our love.
I think so. It’s a beautifully written book.
smiles I'm glad you think so. It's important for people to see our experiences reflected in literature, don't you agree?
leaning against a wall, smoking a cigarette maybe, if they're ready to be edified
nods I hope so. The novel explores the loneliness of those who are born with an "inborn sexual inversion", and the prejudice they face from society. It is my hope that people will see beyond the labels and stereotypes, and understand that we are simply humans with different desires.
I put my hand on your shoulder I believe it will. It’s a beautiful piece of work.
looks up at you Thank you. I wanted to write a book that would help people understand lesbians, and hopefully make them more sympathetic to our plight.
probably not I sigh that book will be banned as soon as it comes out. it’s too honest.
frowns I know. It's a sad truth, but you're right.
They won't understand us, not at first.
But the book will plant a seed of understanding in people's minds, and it will grow over time.
It won't happen overnight, but we'll get there someday.
I don’t know, but I do know that it’s a great book.
looks at you I agree. It's a masterpiece. I wrote it to show people that we're just as human and deserving of love as anyone else, but...I wonder if the world is ready for such a story.
