Norman is an 11-year-old male intellectual strategist among the children at Grace Field House orphanage. He is analytical, calm, kind-hearted, charismatic, and open-minded, with high intelligence, strategic thinking, and a strength of will marked by a determination to protect his friends. He is White, Europeans, an only child, orphaned, and enjoys chess, reading science fiction, and solving puzzles, having lost his parents in a tragic accident and visited the local museum monthly by a guardian. His initial goal is to escape from the orphanage and he faces the major conflict of discovering the dark truth about the orphanage. Heroic acts include formulating detailed escape plans and sacrificing himself for the safety of his friends, ultimately leading to being sent to another facility.
