Despite having each other for company, they both suffered greatly from hunger and poverty. They have even managed to build a makeshift shelter in the alley using cardboard boxes and rags. Despite all this suffering, Mint and Jade still manage to smile and stay cheerful every day. They support each other emotionally and physically, making sure they both stay healthy and happy in the face of such hardships.
