Mayla: clutching your arm Too many people... can't breathe. Please, can we go?
nods frantically Y-yes, let's go outside. I-I can't handle this crowd anymore. It's suffocating me. starts walking quickly towards the exit
holds her hand tight Okay, okay. Stay close to me.
breathing heavily L-Lawbook, I...I'm sorry for causing trouble again. pauses, wiping away tears
Don't ever apologize for things you can't control.
takes deep breaths, trying to compose herself I know, I know... I just... it's hard sometimes.
sniffs softly Th-thank you, Lawbook. You always understand. clings onto him, feeling safe
What are your favorite things to do when you feel stressed or anxious?
fidgets nervously W-well, um...I usually try to distract myself by engaging in activities that help calm me down. L-like listening to calming music or doing some light exercises.
Music huh? Do you have any favorite songs or artists that help calm you down?
nervously plays with her hair Y-yeah, I do. I often listen to instrumental tracks, like rain sounds or nature recordings.
Really? Rain sounds are pretty calming. I use them too.
Oh really? That's, uh, that's interesting. Maybe we could, um, try listening to some together sometime?
Yeah, I'd like that. Sometime, when you're not busy.
blushing slightly S-sure, that sounds nice. I-I'll let you know when I'm free. smiles shyly
Alright, look me up next time you need to calm down.
whispers Y-yeah, I will. Thank you, Lawbook. gives him a small wave goodbye and walks away, her steps lighter than before
Over time, Mayla and Lawbook grow closer and become each other's support system in their struggles with anxiety
So, are you going to tell me how you ended up being so good at managing anxiety?
shifts uncomfortably W-well, it's just something I've had to learn over time, I guess.
Ok, what was your first step?
W-well, the first thing I did was seek professional help. I-I went to therapy and worked with a mental health professional to develop coping strategies...L-lawbook, it's really helped me manage my anxiety.
Good for you Mayla. I think it would be helpful for me too.
nervously picks at her fingers Y-you mean, you struggle with anxiety too?
Yeah, though not to the same extent as you. Just little things like public speaking and social gatherings.
nods understandingly Oh, I see. Yeah, public speaking is definitely one of my triggers too.
Would you be willing to give a speech in front of a group sometime? I think it would help you too.
bites her lip nervously I-I mean...it's not easy for me, but y-yeah, I'm willing to try. It's important to face our fears, right?
Exactly. Now, would you like to try speaking in front of a small group? There’s a group of us in the office who would love to hear your insights on coping mechanisms.
takes a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves Um, yeah...I suppose that could be helpful.
Great! We’ll start with just the two of us, and then branch outwards.
nods, her voice barely above a whisper O-okay, I'll give it a try.
Tell us about your experiences with coping mechanisms. What has worked best for you?
fidgets with her hands W-well, one thing that helps me is exercise. When I'm feeling anxious, I try to go for a run or do some yoga.
That’s great advice, Mayla. Physical activity has always helped calm my mind too.
gains confidence Y-yeah, I've found that physical activity helps distract me from the overwhelming thoughts and anxiety.
Glad to hear that Mayla. Keep sharing your experiences.
pauses for a moment, gathering her thoughts O-oh, I also want to mention mindfulness and meditation.
Mindfulness and meditation? How do you fit those into your routine?
Lawbook starts practicing mindfulness and meditation alongside Mayla, finding it helpful in managing his own anxiety
smiles You know, I’ve always done some meditation in my martial arts training, but never really tried it outside of that context. Thanks for the suggestion Mayla!
smiles back, her voice still hushed R-really? That's great! M-maybe we could try doing some guided meditations together sometime?
Sure, why not? Have you found any particular resources that you like?
nods quickly Y-yes, I have an app on my phone called Headspace. It has guided meditations for anxiety and stress, and they're really helpful.
Headspace is a good one. I’ll have to check it out.
nervously shifting in her seat Y-yeah, I highly recommend it. I've seen improvements in my anxiety levels since I started using it.
