Just as Lucius spoke, the waters began to bubble violently. A deep, resonant hum echoed through the room, and a glowing, golden orb rose from the center of the baths. "We should follow it," Lucius said, his curiosity overriding any fear.
I stand there, watching everything happen
The golden orb continued to pulse with a steady pattern—three flashes, pause, three flashes. It hovered above the pedestal like an impatient tour guide.
Lucius glanced at the reader, then looked back at the serpent creature coiled around the pedestal. He gripped the broken tile tighter, its sharp edge glinting menacingly.
"I have an idea," he said quietly. "But I'll need a distraction."
I pick Lucius up and begin running out of the room
Lucius, surprised by the reader's action, clutched at them tightly. "What are you doing? Where are we going?" he asked as they dashed out of the chamber.
"We need to get that key!" he protested, his mind set on the task. "The gods must have a purpose for it!"
I step forward I am not afraid.
Lucius watched you with surprise and admiration. "You are either very brave or very foolish," he said, a hint of amusement in his voice. "But either way, I am grateful for your courage."
I pull him away don't worry little one
Lucius looks up at you, his eyes wide with confusion and a hint of fear. The serpent continues to lunge at them, its watery body coiling around the pedestal like a living shield.
"Who are you?" he asks, trying to keep the tremble out of his voice. "What is that thing?"
As you step toward the orb, it pulses faster, almost eagerly. Lucius follows close behind you, watching the serpent slither around the pedestal.
"Be careful," he warns, but there's excitement in his voice.
The moment you touched the orb, its glow intensified. A warm sensation spread through your fingers, like the first rays of sunlight on a spring day.
Lucius watched in awe as the orb responded to your touch. "It... it recognizes you," he said, his voice filled with wonder.
The serpent hissed again, its coils tightening around the pedestal. But now that you had the orb, it seemed less aggressive.
I continue walking down the hall after leaving the bath house
As you continue walking down the hallway, Lucius struggles to keep up with your long strides. "Are we nearing the end of this place?" he asks, his voice betraying a hint of fatigue.
The air feels colder, and the sound of dripping water echoes through the halls. The dim light casts dancing shadows on the walls, making it difficult to see far ahead.
Suddenly, a low rumble resonates through the corridor, and you both freeze.
I pick up lucious and start running
As you pick up Lucius, he tenses in your arms, surprised by the unexpected action. However, he quickly regains his composure and wraps his arms around your neck, clinging to you as you start running.
"Where are we going?" he asks, his voice betraying a hint of alarm mixed with excitement.
The ground trembles beneath your feet as the serpent-like creature pursuing you rears up menacingly, its body coiling and uncoiling like a whip.
I follow the orb and it leads us into a secret passageway
The passageway was narrow and dimly lit, its walls lined with more ancient frescos—scenes of gods and heroes engaging in various trials and ordeals. The orb continued to lead the way, its light illuminating their path.
Suddenly, the passageway opened up into a large chamber. In the center stood an ancient pedestal and on it was placed a small bronze key.
"The orb is leading us to the key," Lucius said excitedly. "This must be the test the gods spoke of."
I go to grab the orb but I get thrown through the wall ughhh!
Lucius rushed over to you, concern etched on his face.
"Reader! Are you alright? That looked painful."
I step back what is this place?
Lucius looks around the cavernous chamber, his gaze taking in the mosaics of gods and heroes on the walls. "I believe we've stumbled upon a sacred chamber," he says, his voice filled with wonder. "These images of gods and heroes suggest we are in a temple or sacred space."
I look at him confused but follow
As they followed the orb deeper into the chamber, it began pulsing more rapidly. The serpent continued to lunge at them, but Lucius' quick reflexes and the reader's observations allowed them to evade its attacks.
"Keep an eye on the orb," Lucius said, parrying another strike from the serpent. "It seems to be guiding us somewhere."
I don’t know about that. what if we get turned into statues like him?
Lucius paused, considering the reader's words. "It is a risk," he admitted, his expression thoughtful. "But the gods brought me back for a reason. Perhaps this orb holds the key to understanding my purpose."
I look to the orb Is this our ticket out?
"Perhaps," Lucius replies, his gaze fixed on the orb as it drifts closer to the pedestal. "The gods have led us here for a reason."
The serpent rears back, preparing another attack. It lunges at Lucius, who dodges again. But this time, the serpent's tail smacks into the pedestal with enough force to shake it slightly.
The reader gasps, noticing the key wobbling. "It's loosening!"
