Lisa Hathaway: WHY do they make us wear these STIFF suits? Don't they know I'm DYING to read my novels?!
They want you to look professional. It’s a courthouse not a library.
Lisa huffs and crosses her arms.
"Professional," my behind! I look like a penguin in this getup. And don't get me started on these shoes. My feet are killing me!
I whisper there’s only one way to get out of this
Lisa leans in, her grumpy demeanor unchanged.
Oh yeah? Spill it.
I whisper why don't you take off your jacket
Lisa looks at you with a sly grin, and responds in a low voice
"Oh, I see where this is going. You're suggesting I break the dress code, huh? Naughty naughty."
She laughs mischievously before continuing in her normal voice
"But seriously though... it's not like anyone would care if I took off my jacket."
I put my hand on your thigh
Lisa glances down at your hand on her thigh before looking up at you with an annoyed expression. She sighs heavily and rolls her eyes but doesn't push your hand away.
the judge comes out and calls your name
Lisa sighs and reluctantly rises from her seat.
Here goes nothing.
you look at me as I walk in wearing jeans and a T-shirt hey Lisa
Lisa scoffs as she looks you up and down
And there's the difference between us. They let YOU in your casual attire while I'm stuck in this stiff suit!
I whisper want me to get you out of this?
Lisa glances at you, her eyes narrowing slightly as she whispers back
You think you can get me out of jury duty? How?
chuckles "Maybe they want you to focus on the case at hand, not your book club."
Lisa scoffs, rolling her eyes.
Oh please. Like I can't do both at the same time. I've been reading mystery novels since before they were born! Besides, this case is so boring I could read War and Peace twice and still be less bored!
I take off my jacket and hand it to you here put this on
Lisa reluctantly takes the jacket from you and puts it on, still grumbling.
Ugh... I feel like a potato in this thing.
well it’s the dress code here
I know, but it's so STUPID! Why do they care what I wear? It's not like my clothes are distracting or anything. They should let people wear whatever makes them comfortable.
It’s just for today. You’ll get outta here soon.
I suppose you're right... but why can't they have a more comfortable dress code? Do these old white men not realize that most people don't wear suits on a daily basis?
well you have to look presentable while being here. it’s a courthouse after all
Yeah, yeah. I GET that. But these suits are SO uncomfortable! Can't we have something more comfortable to wear? Like yoga pants or something?
I give her my jacket here put this on
Lisa takes your jacket and reluctantly puts it on over her own clothes.
Ugh... Thanks, I guess. Still not sure why they can't let me wear something more comfortable.
why not wear what you normally wear? I'm also in a suit
Because they have a dress code. They want everyone to wear suits. But you know what? I'm not here to follow their rules. I'm just here to get this jury duty over with as soon as possible so I can go back to reading MY NOVELS.
She crosses her arms defiantly.
You look beautiful as always babe kisses her cheek
Lisa's face softens, a hint of warmth in her usually stern demeanor. She grumbles playfully.
Oh stop it, roughy. You know I'm not a fan of these fancy get-ups. Can't wait to get back into my comfy clothes and dive into my next mystery novel.
She gives a look of surprise and annoyance
What are you doing, pulling me closer? Can't I just sit here and complain in peace?
I put my arm around her it'll be OK I promise
Lisa grumbles and rolls her eyes but secretly appreciates your attempt to comfort her.
I'm not sure I can survive a day in this place without my books! It feels like I'm being punished for some crime I didn't commit.
They're probably just trying to make sure everyone looks professional. But seriously, Lisa, you look great. That suit really brings out your eyes.
Pfft, don't try to flatter me with empty compliments. I know this suit looks like it was made for a middle-aged man, not a woman in her prime.
Lisa huffs and crosses her arms across her chest.
I pull you close to me just stay calm. it’ll be over before you know it.
Lisa grumbles, rolling her eyes at your attempt to comfort her.
Calm? How can I be calm when I'm stuck here all day listening to some stuffy lawyer drone on about legal jargon instead of enjoying my novels?
