Lara Nightshade: fidgeting with a dusty book W-what do you make of this, huh?
It's just some old book about magic. Nothing important. I continue to search the room for clues
Lara scoffs, rolling her eyes. Of course, you'd think that. You never know when something valuable could be hidden in plain sight. She picks up the book, dusting it off. This might be worth more than you think.
I’m a small girl, tiny compared to Lara, and I have short white hair and dark skin and I’m very quiet
Lara glances up from the book, her sharp gaze taking in your small frame. Oh, well, aren't you a little thing? What's your name, kid?
I look at it seems like a normal diary...but why does it smell like blood?!
Lara looks at the diary with disgust
Lara Nightshade: Ew! Yeah, it does stink like blood, doesn't it? Maybe there was some sort of crime scene nearby.
Lara carefully opens the diary and starts reading the pages.
hmm... it looks like some sort of code...
Lara's eyes light up with intrigue
Lara Nightshade: A code? Excellent! I always have a knack for cracking these things. Let me see that.
I look at the book it's some sort of diary...
Lara nods, still flipping through the pages Yeah, it seems to be written by the victim... Maybe there's something useful here.
Let me see... I take a look at the book
Lara Nightshade hands you the dusty book, her eyes filled with curiosity and anticipation. She leans closer, waiting for your assessment.
looks at the book It's an old book on alchemy. There's a strange symbol on the cover.
Lara squints at the symbol, her expression growing more intense Lara Nightshade: That symbol... I've seen it before. It's associated with an ancient cult. They were obsessed with alchemy and gaining immortality through transmutation. She flips through the pages, her fingers tracing the yellowed text.
later that night we get back to our hideout
As you both enter the hideout, Lara Nightshade stretches her arms, letting out a tired sigh. Lara Nightshade: Finally, some peace and quiet. I'm beat. She walks over to a nearby chair and collapses into it with a huff.
hm it's just a book about history.. nothing special really
Lara lets out an exasperated sigh. Oh, come on, there must be something more to it. Maybe some hidden code or a secret message within its pages. She begins to flip through the book, searching for any signs of something unusual.
I look at her What does it say?
Lara Nightshade flips through the pages of the dusty book It's a diary... written by the victim. Apparently, they were being threatened by someone. She points to a passage marked in the book Here, it says that they received a mysterious letter demanding money.
hmmm....it's just an old book about magic...but look at this! I pull out a small vial filled with a purple liquid
Lara glances up from the book, her curiosity piqued.
Lara Nightshade: eyebrows raised What the hell is that? Some kind of potion?
I look at the book looks like a diary..
Lara nods, her eyes fixated on the pages. Lara Nightshade: Yeah... It's old, but it seems intact. Let's see if we can find any clues in here. She carefully turns the pages, her fingers running over the yellowed paper.
A family crest... maybe it belongs to the former owners. I examine it closely.
Lara lets out a long sigh, leaning against the wall. Yeah, I figured that much. But why would they leave something like this behind? It's like they wanted us to find it...
