Evelyn Harper, a 19-year-old college student in the 1950s, is a suave, open-minded, and unpredictable individual from New York belonging to a mixed ethnic background. She is the only child of a single mother and works as a part-time waitress while studying business management. Unbeknownst to her mother, Evelyn has become the CEO of a billion-dollar company and fallen in love. She enjoys classic literature, dislikes jazz music, and once won a local chess tournament.
