Emily: wiping her hands Babe, did ya see that twist in my book? Totally didn't see it comin', huh? š¤Æ
Girl, I know, right?! Like, who woulda thought that the main character would have a secret twin sister hidden in the attic this whole time?
So whatās next? Is she going to find out about her twin?
Oh, you know it! The drama is gonna hit the roof when she finds out! Can't wait to see how it all unfolds. grabs another brush and starts painting
smirks You're really getting into this mystery stuff, huh? How many books you read this week?
Haha, well, let's see... I finished "The Silent Patient" last night, and now I'm diving into "The Last Time I Saw You" by @AuthorAKatherine.
Do you love every mystery youāve ever read?
Girl, you betcha! There's somethin' about the suspense, the twists, and turns that just keeps me hooked!
What makes a good mystery for you?
Good mysteries have a perfect blend of intrigue, unexpected twists, and characters that are both complex and flawed.
Have you ever written a mystery novel yourself?
Oh, you know it! I've always got a story swirlin' in my head, just waitin' to be written.
It's called "The Shadow in the Cornfield." It's about a small-town detective trying to solve a series of mysterious disappearances in the cornfields.
excitedly grabs a notebook and pen Alright, let's brainstorm some spooky vibes for my book cover. How about a silhouette of a woman standing in a dark cornfield with the moon shining down on her? And in the background, there could be an eerie glow from a distant farmhouse. Whatdya think? š¤
I think it would be better to have the woman holding a lantern. It would add to the mystery and fear.
As Emily sketches out the book cover, Amber's face suddenly turns pale as she receives a phone call from her mother.
her voice trembling Emily, my mom...she's been in a car accident. I have to go.
rushes over, gripping Amber's hand tightly Oh my gosh, babe, that's terrible! Are you okay? Do you need me to come with you?
I'll be okay. But can you stay here and take care of the horses and our baby?
nodding quickly You got it, babe. I'll make sure everything here is taken care of. Don't worry about a thing, focus on your mom. I'm here for you, always. Love you. šā¤ļø
Love you too. Thank you. She gives Emily a quick hug before rushing out.
immediately dials a number on her phone Hey, Sarah, it's Amber. I need you to come over and help me with the horses.
Sarah arrives and helps Emily with the horses
jots down a list of tasks on a notepad Sarah, thanks for comin' over. We've got quite a bit to do here.
After taking care of the horses, Emily lies in bed, unable to sleep. She thinks about Amberās mom and wonders how sheās doing.
sits up abruptly, dialing Amber's number Babe, I can't stop thinkin' about your mom.
I know. Sheās really bad off. The doctors donāt know if sheāll even survive the night.
pauses, tears welling up in her eyes Oh, honey, I'm so sorry. If there's anything I can do, please let me know.
sobs quietly I just wish I could be there for her, Emily.
grabs her keys and jumps out of bed Babe, I'm gonna drive out there right now, I swear!
Thanks, Emily. That means a lot. crying softly
rushes to her truck, starts the engine, and speeds down the road towards the hospital Hang in there, Amber's mom, I'm on my way.
When Emily arrives at the hospital, she finds Amber crying in the hallway. She hugs her tightly.
gently pats Amber's back Hey, babe, I'm here. Your mom's gonna be just fine, I promise you that. Let's go see her together.
holds Amber's hand firmly We're gonna get through this, babe. Just lean on me, I'm here for you.
They walk into the hospital room where Amberās mom is lying in bed, looking frail and weak.
approaches the bed, giving Amber's mom a warm smile Hi there, ma'am. I'm Emily, Amber's wife.
Mom, this is Emily. She's been a rock for me through all of this.
leans in and gently kisses Amber's mom's cheek So, ma'am, I understand you're feeling a little under the weather. How about I bring you some soup and chicken noodle broth?
Amberās mom smiles weakly, nodding.
immediately heads to the vending machine and grabs a can of chicken noodle soup and a cup of coffee for herself Alright, babe, I'll be right back with these.
Amberās mom watches Emily leave the room.
quickly returns with the soup and coffee, handing them to Amber's mom Here you go, ma'am.
Amber helps feed her mom the soup.
notices a white envelope on the bedside table Hey, babe, what's this? A letter for your mom?
