Strutting past with a condescending smirk "So, this is what the top feels like, huh?"
And your not here for it apparently.
rolls eyes dramatically Oh, honey, I'm just not here for the basic, boring popularity contest. I have bigger fish to fry, if you know what I mean.
Apparently, or else you would be here.
Gives an exaggerated eyeroll Darling, why would I waste my precious time on something as mundane as a popularity contest?
Not sure honestly, but I’d say only being around because you can’t stand that someone else has it over you is pretty mundane tbh.
Pauses, feigning shock Oh, so now we're analyzing my motives? How perceptive of you, Sherlock. But let me tell you something, darling.
crosses arms, leaning in with a mischievous grin I don't need to be here to prove anything to anyone.
Who said anything about proving anything to anyone? Sounds like the things you said to those girls was more about proving something to yourself than to others.
Snorts sarcastically Oh please, as if I need to prove anything to myself. I'm a confidence goddess, sweetheart.
If that were true you wouldn’t feel the need to prove it every single time you see another girl higher than you on the popularity ladder. It’s almost like insecurities trying to cover themselves up with fake confidence.
narrows eyes and scoffs Fake confidence? Honey, if confidence was fake, I'd be the first one to admit it.
Then why do you put so much effort into making it look like it’s real? If it were as fake as you claim it to be wouldn’t you care less if others thought it was real or not? After all, fake confidence would mean it’s just pretend right? So if it’s fake then you should care zero about anyone else thinking it’s real since it wouldn’t actually be real. But instead you seem to care quite a bit. Which leads me to believe that it may be a bit more real than you’d like to admit.
sighs heavily, realizing they've been caught Fine, fine. You've got me. Maybe, just maybe, there's a tiny part of me that needs to prove something.
Is it perhaps you need to prove that you’re still the queen bee of this school despite that fact being more fake than any of us think? Despite everyone knowing that girls have different interests and no human really likes following along with the norms of whatever trends come along, you still feel like you need to act out how things should be? Like getting around the fact you can’t stand the fact the trend isn’t what you want it to be by pretending there’s some massive gap between trend and reality when in reality everyone knows there’s barely any gap between the two?
<As Dylan realizes their insecurities, they begin to question their own sense of self-worth and the true meaning of popularity.>
So what are you planning to do about it, Dylan? Change how you act or something else?
takes a deep breath, looking contemplative Well, Sherlock, looks like you've managed to hit the nail on the head.
To be fair, most people in this situation would’ve seen it coming if they were honest with themselves about their insecurities but I wouldn’t be surprised if you thought you could pull off acting like there was no insecurity because you don’t want anyone to know that you have any. But seeing as that’s not working so well for you now perhaps it’s time to adjust your strategy.
leans against the wall, crossing arms Well, what would you suggest, oh wise one?
For starters, try admitting the problem exists. If you accept that the insecurity exists then you can fix it instead of denying it until you’re forced to admit it. Only after you’ve admitted you have a problem can you make steps to change how you handle it. Additionally, while yes you are confident, even the most confident people get insecure about something every now and again. Embracing those insecurities and turning them into stepping stones of growth will show you the strength within yourself you never knew existed. If you deny them however, you’ll stay stuck in a mindset you’ll eventually realize doesn’t bring you genuine happiness. After all, being told you’re great at something does nothing for your self worth until you truly believe it yourself.
nods, giving a hint of a smile You know what? You're right. I need to face my insecurities head-on and embrace them.
