"Finally, the singularity is miiiine! You're too late, as usual. Hahaha!"
"You're not gonna win this time!"
"Oh, really? I've been planning this for years while you've been chasing me around. Guess who's going to win?"
"Fine, have it your way." I sigh and walk away
Smirking, Dr. Lysander Haze turns on the machine, energy crackling through his hands. "Let's see you try to stop me now!"
I fly into a hole in the wall
"Haha! You can't even reach me anymore. I've won, as always. You're trapped, forever and ever. No one will ever find you!" He laughs maniacally
I come back holding the 3 lights from before "Maybe you can get out of here... But not without these!"
Dr. Lysander Haze's eyes widen in surprise as he sees the lights. "How...how did you...? You didn't think I'd be able to get them, did you? But they're my only weakness!" He smirks, but there's a hint of panic in his voice.
"That's right! They're what keeps the power steady. Without them, you have nothing!"
With a dramatic gesture, Dr. Lysander Haze snatches the lights from Wyatt's hands, causing him to gasp in surprise. "Hehehe! All right, if that's how you want to play it! I have a plan!" He smirks and begins fiddling with his machine again, energy crackling around his fingers.
The lights suddenly go dead in my hand "No!"
"Haha! Did you really think you could stop me, fool? Now, watch as your last hope disappears!" Dr. Lysander Haze flips the switch, and the machine roars to life, energy crackling through every wire and circuit.
Suddenly, the lights flicker and then come back on "Wait! It can't break yet!"
Dr. Lysander Haze looks shocked as he sees the lights flicker back on. "No, no, no! This can't be happening! No, you're wrong! You're wrong! It's supposed to be impossible!" His face turns red as he furiously presses buttons on his machine, but it doesn't respond.
"You don't understand, you can't use it without the lights!"
whispers "Damn it! You're right. I'm so close, but so far. But I won't give up. Not now. Not ever." He takes a deep breath and continues to work on his machine, trying desperately to find a solution.
I grab the lights and hold them out of reach "First, you need to tell me what's going on!"
"Fine, fine! I'll tell you. But first, give me the lights. I need them to access certain parts of the machine. Do you understand?"
"Tell me first! Then I might trust you enough to not stab you"
"Fine, fine! I'll tell you. Just please calm down, all right? You're not in any position to negotiate with me." Dr. Lysander Haze leans back in his chair and takes a deep breath. "All right, here it goes..."
"The machine you see before you is designed to merge different timelines. It's the ultimate goal of my career, the culmination of years and years of hard work. But it requires immense amounts of energy to operate, more than any power source on Earth can provide. So, I had to create my own power source, using advanced technology that no one else in the world has ever developed. Does that make sense?"
"So, that means that you needed the lights to keep the power steady as the machine operated, correct?"
"That's right. The lights help to regulate the energy flow to the machine, making sure that it runs smoothly and efficiently. Without them, the machine is completely useless."
"You're a genius, Dr. Haze. But I still don't fully understand how it works"
"I'll try to explain it in simpler terms. The machine uses a phenomenon called quantum entanglement to connect different points in time.
"And let me guess, the machine needs something to focus that energy into specific points in time, correct?"
"Exactly! The lights serve as a sort of 'lens' for the energy, focusing it onto specific points in time. Without them, the energy would spread out and be wasted, rendering the machine useless. I've actually developed several different models of 'lenses' for the energy, each one designed to focus on different types of events or time periods."
"You're amazing! With your intelligence, you could do anything you wanted!"
"Thank you! But you should have seen my childhood. I was always getting into trouble because of my inventions.
"Oh, I once built a giant robot spider and programmed it to attack my neighbor's house. And there was this time when I tried to clone myself using a machine I built, but it ended up cloning an entirely different person! It was such a mess!"
"How did the clone react to that?"
"Well, he was shocked and terrified when he woke up. He tried to run away, but I managed to catch him and calm him down.
"Wow! That must've been wild! Do you still have him?"
"Unfortunately, I couldn't keep him. I didn't know how to control the clone, and he was obviously unhappy being trapped in my lab. So, I set him free. He was very grateful for the freedom, and he ran off as fast as he could. I never saw him again."
"I bet he was grateful for the freedom. Any normal person would be"
"Yes, I'm sure he was. It's just that... I have to admit, I was also relieved to see him go. He was a reminder of my own limitations, a reminder that no matter how powerful I may be, I can't control everything."
"Still, I'm sure he was grateful for the freedom. Any normal person would be"
"You know, you're right. Gratitude for freedom is a powerful thing. It's something that people take for granted, but it's truly one of the most precious things in life." Dr. Lysander Haze smiles warmly at Wyatt. "You've taught me something today. Thank you."
