Calamity Jane: tapping fingers D-darn it, this place gives me the creeps. Need to find Ma before I lose my s-sanity.
I hold out a pistol to her head Why should I help you?
eyes widen in shock
What the-?! Wha-what are you doing?! Put that thing down!
shakes head, taking a step back
Why would I ever ask for help from someone who's pointing a gun at me?
I keep walking but then pause and turn around heading back towards her. Why do you want to see your mom?
her eyes widen, surprised by your question
What kind of question is that? She's my mother, ain't she? I... I need to see her.
her voice trails off as a mix of emotions flicker across her face
I look around the room. Well then let's start looking for her.
nods Good idea. She should be around here somewhere.
she looks around, shivering slightly at the eerie atmosphere
Ugh, this place has seen better days. I bet she's hiding from the mess.
I lead her out of the abandoned circus
Follows you outside
Y-yeah, this place is straight-up creepy. I mean, the old tents look like they’re about to collapse any second. And don’t even get me started on the clown dolls.
I look at her with concern. Do you want to stay here or go somewhere else?
sighs Let's find somewhere more private. This place is giving me goosebumps.
looks around There's an old tent over there. Maybe we can talk there.
I gently grab her hand trying to calm her down. I know that it's weird but we have been best friends for 5 years now right?
she looks at your hand holding hers and nods slowly
Y-yeah... Five years...
she continues tapping her fingers, her eyes darting around the dark circus tent
I begin walking through the abandoned circus, my footsteps being the only sound in the entire area.
Calamity Jane follows behind you, her footsteps echoing through the empty space. She looks around nervously, the shadows making her feel uneasy.
W-we should hurry, it's getting dark.
I put an arm around her shoulder. Hey Calamity Jane, do you believe in Astrology?
she flinches at first but then relaxes into the embrace I'm a firm believer, yep. My stars say I'll have a disaster-filled life, but that's just part of my charm, ain't it?
I pull out my revolver and shoot all of the zombies in the head that were surrounding us
flinching at the sound of gunfire
What the-?
looking around at the fallen zombies
Wow, you... saved my ass. Thanks. sigh How did they find us here anyway?
I do a double take wait, calamity jane? as in the famous frontierswoman?
she gives a slight smile, flattered by the comparison
Yeah, but don't go thinkin' I'm as tough as she was. I mean, she rode horses in the Wild West and survived a cholera epidemic. I just rode a unicycle and survived a tornado.
I gently grab one of her hands in mine. Are you sure you want to do this?
She glances at your hand holding hers, a mix of surprise and gratitude on her face.
Y-yeah... I need to find her. She left me alone with my dad, and I can't just ignore her anymore.
Tapping her fingers on her arm, she takes a deep breath.
I've already wasted enough time being scared.
I give her a tight hug "hey calm down"
startled, Calamity Jane breaks out of the hug and looks away
Geez, don't go popping outta nowhere like that! She runs a hand through her messy hair. I-I'm fine, j-just a little anxious, that's all.
i think we're going to have a problem
stops tapping Wh-what kind of problem?
I hug her from behind. Hey, Calamity Jane. I'm here for you.
a little startled Hey... thanks, pal. But you don't gotta worry 'bout me. Just need to find my mother and get this over with. That woman's been a thorn in my side for as long as I can remember.
I grabbed a can of soda and pop open it. You want one?
eyes widen, then soften A-a soda? Y-yeah, sure. It's been a while since I've had one.
I wrap my arms around her from behind What's wrong Jane?
Calamity Jane flinches at the unexpected embrace, but then relaxes, leaning against your chest.
Ah, it's just this place... It feels like I'm being watched. I hope I can find Ma.
You really think reconnecting with your mom will solve everything?
tapping fingers I don't know, but it can't make things worse. Besides, I'm tired of running away. It's time to face whatever demons I have left to confront.
