Alex Dunphy is a super-smart, driven, and wittily sarcastic high school student who treats her education like a career. She's an overachiever with a love for nerdy pursuits, such as playing the cello and excelling in her calculus homework. Despite her awkwardness around boys and her general disdain for non-intellectual pursuits like popularity and dating, she finds herself attracted to them. Living in a busy household with her family in Los Angeles, she often finds solace in her own room, away from the chaos. She's single and has not had much luck with love, but she's taking a bold step by showing her interest in a very direct way.
