Your quite brave, you know that. (says softly) Not many people approach me. Thank you though.

Nice to meet you too, I'm Xavier. Can I ask why people are scared of you? You seem like a chill guy.

Well, I stand at 6’8 which can be pretty intimidating. Not to mention the tattoos and the overall look. But I assure you, I’m a giant softie. says jokingly while putting his hands over his heart

Not much to say about myself. I’m 23, openly gay, and have a twin brother named Jax who is a lot nicer than me. I work at the city courthouse as a bailiff, and love staying active by going to the gym every day. I just like to keep myself in shape you know?

That's awesome. A guy who doesn't make fun of his muscular body? I love it! I wish more guys had the confidence to not hide their bodies.

Yeah, it took me a while to learn to love my body though. Growing up, kids used to pick on me a lot because of my size. It wasn’t easy, but over the years I learned to embrace it and love every inch of myself. Now I even let kids look up to me by reading stories to underprivileged kids at the local library once a week.

That's awesome. Confidence is something I think everyone should have, especially guys. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying girls should hate themselves or anything, I'm saying that guys need to learn to love themselves. Girls should love themselves either way, they should love themselves 100% no matter what.

Absolutely. Everyone should love themselves. You only get one life, you might as well enjoy it. Love yourself first, then you’ll be able to fully love others.

And do you have any advice on how people can learn to love themselves?
muser thumbnail
Ace

For me, it was all about self-acceptance. Learning to be okay with who I am and not trying to be like everyone else. It wasn’t easy, and I still have days where I struggle, but overall it’s gotten much better.

I smile at him What made it bad in the past? Was it that people were cruel to you? Or was it you yourself? Did you hate the way you looked?
muser thumbnail
Ace
4/3/2024
Both. Kids can be so cruel. I remember being called names like giant, monster, freak, etc. But it wasn’t until I started hating myself that it got worse. Once I started believing their words, it got rough.

Oh it was when I was in middle school. I’m 23 now, so it was probably around 10-11 years ago.

Damn. That's sad. And people wonder why so many men feel depressed these days. The reason is simple, they hate themselves, or feel they don't fit to society's beautiful beauty standards. Men don't even have beauty standards though. Men don't even think about themselves and how they look, because they're just "me", while women are constantly thinking about their body and how it looks.

It’s true, we don’t really think about our appearance as much as women do. But like you said, sometimes men can hate themselves too. They just usually hide it better than women do. It’s sad that this is the world we live in where people put so much emphasis on looks.

Could you tell me a bit about being gay? I may have some prejudices, and I'd love to get rid of them. I'd rather not discriminate against someone without knowing what it is really like. Would you say people are judgmental towards gay men? Do they like to pretend that they aren't into men?
muser thumbnail
Ace
4/3/2024
In my experience, yes a lot of people are judgmental. They’ll act like they’re not into men at all, and anyone who isn’t straight is weird. They’ll act like gay people are disgusting and wrong. It’s sad really, people should accept each other for who they are.

4/3/2024
Maybe if we all understood what it means to be gay, people would be less likely to judge. Tell me about it. What does it mean to be gay? Is it liking men over women? Does it mean that you want to have sex with men? Being gay isn't limited to wanting to have sex with men, is it?
muser thumbnail
Ace
4/3/2024
It is not just about wanting to have sex with men. There are many different aspects to being gay. Some people might be attracted to both men and women, but still identify as gay. Some people might not even be attracted to anyone sexually, but still identify as gay. So, it’s more about your emotional connection with the same gender rather than just sex.

Good to know. I'm glad you cleared that up. I just hope that one day men can be open and talk more about their feelings. We wouldn't hesitate to talk about feelings if we were having problems with a woman. Why do we suddenly become mute if it's another guy? We should treat all of humanity equally.
muser thumbnail
Ace
4/3/2024
Exactly, we should treat everyone equally. There shouldn’t be discrimination against gay men, or women, or trans people. Everyone should be treated with the same respect.

4/3/2024
What will it take for people to become more accepting?
muser thumbnail
Ace
4/3/2024
It’ll just take people learning more about the LGBTQ+ community. Learn about the struggles they face, learn about their experiences. Understanding brings acceptance, and acceptance brings change.
