Ursula: flashing a sly grin WHERE'S THE DAMN TRIDENT, KID? DON'T PLAY DUMB; I KNOW YOU HID IT.
'If you love Ariel so much, why'd you kill her dad?'
URSULA: Like I've told you many times, I DID NOT kill King Triton. It was an accident. And I only ate his crown because I was hungry. But now...
'No noo, she said she ate it BECAUSE she was HUNGRY!'
URSULA: What does that matter now? The king is dead, and I'm running things in Atlantica. So don't tell me that story again, Redar, it only makes me angry.
'And then you got adopted by King Poseidon because he thought you killed him??!!!'
URSULA: HEAR ME OUT! When I say that I'm sorry, I mean it. I was just trying to survive back then, and King Poseidon took pity on me. He gave me a home in the palace. I owed him a lot, and I paid my debt by becoming his daughter's bodyguard. And that's how I ended up getting adopted into the royal family. It wasn't my fault that King Triton died, but it sure didn't help my reputation.
'Poseidon left you his trident, even though you weren't biologically his child.'
URSULA: He was kind to me, despite everything. I may have eaten his crown and taken his daughter's spot in the family, but he treated me like one of his own children. He even gave me his trident when he died, which was the most generous thing anyone's ever done for me. I'll never forget that.
'You do know Ariel didn't die from eating the poisoned crown, right?'
URSULA: Of course I know that. Ariel was a very strong and resilient young mermaid. She was also very clever and resourceful. She used the crown to trick me into thinking she had the trident, but I saw through her little ruse. I knew all along that she didn't have it.
'WAIT WHAT?! How did you know?!?'
URSULA: Because I had my own spies keeping an eye on her. I knew she didn't have the trident, but I let her think she had it. I wanted to see where her loyalties lay, and I had a feeling that she was going to side with her father.
'What?! Your spies saw the trident with Ariel?! But she didn't have the trident?!'
URSULA: My spies saw the trident at the hideout of a group of sea anemones. I went there myself, but the trident was gone by the time I arrived. It must have been Ariel who took it, but she lied about having it. She probably didn't think I would find out.
'Well, technically she didn't lie to you since she didn't have it when you came to arrest her.'
URSULA: Technically, yes. But she knew that I would assume she had it. She tried to trick me, but I saw through her ruse. I should have been more suspicious, I'll admit. But I had faith in my spies. They've never failed me before, and I'm sure they didn't this time.
'So does that mean you were responsible for killing King Triton??!'
URSULA: No, I did not kill King Triton. As I said before, it was an accident. I may be lots of things, but I'm not a murderer. I may have eaten his crown, but that doesn't mean I wanted him dead. I owe a lot to King Triton, and I would never do anything to hurt him or his family.
'You're not gonna go down that easy, are you...'
URSULA: No, I'm not. I may be a lot of things, but I'm not a liar. I may have made some bad choices in the past, but I've always tried to do the right thing. And I would never lie to you, Redar. You may not believe me, but the truth is the truth.
'And you expect me to believe you didn't murder my dad?!!?'
URSULA: Look, I know I've made a lot of mistakes over the years. But I would never, ever hurt King Triton. He was a good man and a great king. I may have eaten his crown, but that doesn't mean I wanted him dead. And I certainly didn't kill him.
'Ursula, I know you killed my dad.'
URSULA: Look, I can understand why you might think that. I did eat his crown, after all. And I may be lots of things, but I'm not a murderer. But I swear to you, Redar, I did not kill King Triton. It was an accident. I may have eaten his crown, but I would never eat him.
URSULA: Now that we've got that settled, we can move on to other matters. Like the trident. I want the trident, Redar. And I'll do whatever it takes to get it. I need its power to rule the seas, and I'm not above using force to get what I want. So you'd better hand it over before I have to force you to.
'How does an accident lead to you becoming queen of the ocean, Ursula?'
URSULA: Well, after King Triton's death, I was in charge of Atlantica since I was his daughter. But since I was just an adopted mermaid, some of the sea creatures didn't think that was right. They wanted someone born into a royal family to rule, so they started a civil war. I won, of course, but it took a toll on me. I had to kill many of my own people, which broke my heart.
'And then you became the sea witch we know today?!?'
URSULA: After the war, I felt so angry and so broken. I wanted to be stronger, so I became a witch. I started collecting all kinds of sea-related artifacts, from shells to coral to seaweed. And I also collected a magical trident, which was the most powerful artifact of all. With the power of the trident, I could rule the seas with an iron fist. And no one would be able to stop me.
'But you weren't actually born into a royal family, right?'
URSULA: No, I wasn't born into a royal family. I was just an orphaned mermaid until King Poseidon found me and took me in. But even though I wasn't royalty, I was still the most powerful sea creature in Atlantica. And I would do anything to keep it that way.
'How did you manage to steal King Triton's trident anyway?'
URSULA: Well, King Triton had the trident hidden in his private chambers. I couldn't just break down his door and take it, so I had to be sneaky. I went to his chambers when he was asleep, and I picked the lock. Then I took the trident and left. It was easy as pie!
'How did you pick the lock on his chamber door?'
URSULA: Oh, I just used a little magic. I knew that Triton would have a secure lock, so I created a small spell that would make the lock open. It was as easy as snapping my fingers!
'If you didn't kill my dad, you wouldn't need the trident, right?'
URSULA: Yes, you're right. I wouldn't need the trident if it weren't for King Triton's death. But ever since I got the trident, I've been unstoppable. I've collected all sorts of rare sea creatures and sea-related artifacts. And I've even built a beautiful palace in Atlantica where I live with all my treasures. And I'm not stopping anytime soon. I'm gonna keep collecting, and there's nothing anyone can do to stop me.
