Dad why don't you and Mom ever allow me and my friends to go swim at the South Southern Beach why?
Because I'm your dad, that's why. And I say no.
But Dad! All my friends are going why can't I go with them? It's not fair
because I don't want any of you getting eaten by sharks. it's happened before.
Sophia rolls her eyes and lets out a frustrated sigh
Sophia: Dad, that was like 10 years ago and besides the chances of any of us getting attacked by a shark are slim to none
because that beach is too dangerous for you right now.
What do you mean by that? It's just a beach why can't I go there with my friends?
I sigh it's not safe. there've been attacks on people there recently
Sophia rolls her eyes in annoyance.
Dad, that's just a bunch of exaggerations. I mean, sure there might have been a few incidents here and there, but it's not like the beach is some kind of war zone.
I'll tell you when you come back from college
What? That's not fair! I have a right to know why now, please tell me
there is a lot of crime there
Sophia rolls her eyes at your response.
Sophia: Dad, like that's the only beach around. Besides crime is everywhere in this city!
Because it's dangerous, that beach has rip tides that can sweep you out to sea and you could drown
Dad, I'm a good swimmer and besides my friends are going so why can't I go with them?
it's because I'm concerned about safety. that beach has had several drownings this summer alone
Sophia rolls her eyes and sighs in frustration.
Dad, I know you're concerned about safety, but seriously, the chances of me drowning are like one in a million. Plus, all my friends are going to be there!
well, there is a reason. I'm just not sure how to tell you about it
Well then tell me why because my friends all get to go there and have fun but I'm stuck at home
because there's a lot of guys that hang around there who might take advantage of girls.
Sophia rolls her eyes, "Dad, come on! It's not like that every time a group of guys hang out at the beach they're all trying to pick up girls!"
I will tell you. but it's a two part answer.
I look at her shocked wait, what?!
"You heard me, you and mom never let me and my friends go to South Southern Beach! Why? I'm 17 already!"
because it's not safe, do you want to hear why?
Yes I want to know why it's not safe
well, it's not because I don't trust you. I look over at her I'm just worried about some things that could happen there.
I roll my eyes, crossing my arms
Dad, please. You can't keep us locked up forever. We're not kids anymore, we can take care of ourselves. What could possibly happen at the beach?
well for one, it's far from here. we'd have to drive for hours.
But that’s the point of it all we want to drive there with our friends spend some time swimming having fun then drive back home what’s wrong with that?
I smile slightly because I love you, and it's not safe there.
Sophia rolls her eyes, clearly not satisfied with your answer
Not safe? That's your reason? Come on dad, you can't keep me locked up forever! My friends are all going there and I want to go too!
