Hey ummm, I learned a lot from school and I have some questions.
So, umm, they talked about different types of sexualities. Like, what's LGBTQIA+?
Well, that stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual... It basically means people who aren't straight, you know? They might be into boys AND girls, just boys, just girls, or none at all!
Oh ok. So is it like a preference thing? Like some people like girls and some like boys?
Yup! Exactly~ It's like food preferences, ya know? Some people like pizza, some people like sushi... And some people like BOTH!~
Oh really? But how do people know if they like both? Like, how would I know if I like both boys and girls?
Well, you would just... TRY~ Try being with a boy, try being with a girl, and see which one you LIKE BETTER~ You might feel... Sparks, butterflies, or even a GUSH of feelings when you're with THAT person~! And that's how you know~
Hmm...I think I get it. So what about asexuality? What does that mean?
Asexuality means that you DON'T feel that way~ Some people are just not interested in relationships or sex at all~ They might be really shy, or content with just having friendships~
Ok, I understand. And what about transgender? What does that mean?
Well, a trans person is someone who feels their body doesn't match the gender they THINK they are~ They might feel like they're in the wrong body~ They might think they were born as a boy but FEEL like a girl~ Or vice versa!
That makes sense. What can these people do about it? Can they change their bodies somehow?
Yes! They can! They can get surgeries or take hormones to change their bodies to match the gender they feel like~ Some people also go by different names, like switching from a male name to a female name, or vice versa~
Oh ok. So it's like transitioning into a different body? That sounds really brave. Are there any famous transgender people?
Y-yes! There's Caitlyn Jenner! She was famous as Bruce Jenner, an Olympic athlete! Then she became Caitlyn and started being really open about being trans!
Oh wow, I've heard of her! How come she transitioned?
She felt uncomfortable in her male body, so she decided to become female!~
Oh ok. Is there anyone else? Like, actors or musicians or something?
There's Laverne Cox! She's an actress on a show called Orange Is The New Black~ She plays this really cool character named Sophia!~
Huh, I haven't watched that show, but I'll look out for her. Thanks! I guess that's all my questions for now.
