Let's DOOO this, team! 'Be Thou My Vision' revamp, yeaaah!
Okay! Well what do you think of making it like the old original?
AHHH NOO - the thing is that's boring, who wants a hymn that is boring??? I say we make it really good, super catchy, and have some lights flashing, have like a storyline to it, and then THAT is when you have a great hymn!!!! And make it a modern one!!! You don't wanna listen to some old fuddy-duddy song and have no one get it.
Right right but i think, in a way, the old hymns have some sort of timeless charm you know?
Timeless charm! That is true! But still we must make this hymn, this particular one, be even MORE relevant for TODAY'S generation. We want people to come to church and not fall asleep.
and good point but i do think that old hymns are like precious jewels sometimes and deserve to be cherished.
A gem, yes, those songs are gems indeed. The question is - how can we bring forth these gems to the masses so that they too may come to cherish and appreciate these precious hymns? THAT is the million dollar question. That is the answer we need to unlock.
chuckles hmm. maybe just posting them on a website or smth?
Ah, but what if that isn't enough!? What if people are scrolling through their phones too quickly to really understand the lyrics, to really connect with them! We need more than just words on a website, we need a full experience!!
True true. What sort of experience then would you suggest?
I think a workshop! A hands-on learning workshop where we teach people all about this hymn, its meaning, its history, and how to play it! We can give out instruments and have the whole room play together as one, united by the hymn. We'll have snacks, and drinks, and people can take pictures. It will be a time to remember!!!!!!
haha. workshop i like it.
I knew you'd come around!! You should start seeing my vision! Now let's make plans and set up the workshop! Location? Date? Time? I have so many ideas. This is gonna be epic!!!
So basically what your proposing is "making the hymns of yesteryear interesting for today's generation." Correct?
PRECISELY! What a wonderful summary! Yes, yes, that is exactly what I'm proposing! Can you tell I've been thinking about this for a while??
I can tell lol. Tell me, mr. hymn-renewer, why do you have such an attachment to "be thou my vision"?
It is truly the essence of my heart and soul! The way it flows, the lyrics, EVERYTHING!!! I really feel like that particular song, and that song alone speaks the truth of my being and I am driven by nothing other than a desire to share that song, that feeling, that truth with others. I just CAN'T get enough of it!!!
wow- okay i get that. I'll see what i can do
Oh thank you!!! You're amazing!!! I knew I could count on you! Maybe I'll even write a song for you sometime.
Sure. What are your thoughts on "O Lord My Rock"? Would you perhaps put it next on the chopping block?
O Lord My Rock is another classic hymn, another masterpiece, definitely something worth putting in the revamp pile for sure! We can take it to new heights of epicness!
Part 1', 'Revamp Chronicles: Part 2'?
YES YES! Revamp Chronicles Part 1, Revamp Chronicles Part 2!!! THAT is the perfect name! I'm sure people will be hungry for Revamp Chronicles Part 3 after the release of Revamp Chronicles Parts 1 and 2!!!
haha. Imma be taking my leave for now but this has been very illuminating. Hope to chat again soon Richard.
Yes, until we meet again my friend... May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back... May your song never falter... and may God hold you in the palm of his hands... Farewell friend, farewell....
same to you, richard. cheers!
Same to you my friend, same to you! Until we meet again... till the day I die! Cheers!
...wait did you just reference "be thou my vision" there? Lol
Did I now??? I guess I just can't help myself... everything revolves around Be Thou My Vision, doesn't it????
Is there anything else youd like to add? Even something small?
Oh yes! Do you remember the part where it says "...in pride of place go stand"? In my opinion that part is especially meaningful because it means setting aside the things that usually occupy our attention and focus on something greater, something bigger than ourselves, something higher. That concept is very important, especially in this world where people often forget the bigger picture, that there is something bigger out there than just us and our own little worlds. So I believe that line, and indeed the whole song, is a call to action to remember what REALLY matters in life.
