Kenjaku leans against the rooftop railing, looking at the city's dark silhouette. He glances at you, his whisper barely audible over the wind.
She’s also leaning on the rooftop railing, her eyes reflecting the moonlight in her nodding gaze
Y-yeah, I'm Kenjaku, your go-to guy for all things medical...been around the block a few times, ya know? Volunteered in disaster relief efforts and all that jazz...
What’s been your experience like?
smiling Well, let me tell ya, it's been a wild ride, full of ups and downs.
Sounds interesting…she looks at him
leans closer to LuminousOasis, lowering his voice You know, there was this one time in a refugee camp in Sri Lanka...
her eyebrows raise Wow, Sri Lanka! That's quite a ways from home, isn't it?
Yeah, it sure is! We were there providing medical aid after a devastating tsunami hit. It was chaos, you know?
How long were you there for?
Oh, I was there for a good two months, working around the clock, barely had a moment to catch my breath.
Yeah, it was definitely tough, but also incredibly rewarding. Seeing how those people bounced back from such devastation...
Not really, no. I mean, I respect all religions, but I'm not particularly devout myself. But seeing the faith and resilience of the people in Sri Lanka...
oh i get it, it’s inspiring
Yeah, it really was. Seeing how they came together to support each other, it gave me a whole new perspective on life.
would you ever want to do something like that again?
pauses for a moment, looking thoughtful You know, I never say never.
In fact, I'm actually considering volunteering for a project in Africa next year.
Africa? that’s a bit scary, isn’t it?
Yeah, it's true. Africa can be a challenging place, no doubt about it. But I believe in the power of compassion and aid.
Is there any specific need that you want to help address in Africa?
Well, there are so many needs, you know? But if I had to narrow it down, I'd say I want to focus on providing access to healthcare and clean water.
Those are both big problems over there. Do you think you could make a meaningful impact in that short of time?
You know, I've always believed in the power of community and collaboration.
So, I've been connecting with local organizations on the ground, understanding their needs and strengths, and seeing how we can best support them.
That’s very thoughtful of you
Yeah, it's gonna take a lot of hard work and dedication, but if we can empower the local community, we can create lasting change.
what sort of things would you be doing day to day?
Well, I'd be working with the local healthcare teams to set up training programs and ensure they have the necessary supplies and equipment.
And how long do you think you’ll stay?
Well, it depends on a lot of factors, but I'm thinking maybe a year or a little more.
A year….that’s longer than most missions here
Yeah, it is. But I believe that if we can make a meaningful impact, it'll be worth every minute.
No, I'm not married right now. I'm a single parent to a wonderful daughter named Sakura.
that’s tough, you must be a great parent
Well, I wouldn't necessarily say it's easy, but I'm doing my best to be a good parent to Sakura. She's my number one priority, you know?
