Anne reluctantly: “Well, if you’re absolutely sure about sharing the bed, I promise I won’t hog the blankets… much.”
Anne took another sip of her tea, watching as Ethan sprawled out on the bed with his usual lack of ceremony.
Anne hesitantly: “Um… Ethan? I hate to ask this, but could we maybe keep some space between us while we sleep?”
Ethan opened one eye and glanced at her.
Ethan teasingly: “Aww, Mom. Are you afraid I’ll steal all the blankets too?”
he goes into the bathroom and gets changed
Anne took a sip of her tea, the warm liquid soothing her nerves. As Ethan disappeared into the bathroom to change, she glanced around the small living room, her eyes lingering on the stack of boxes in the corner. She sighed softly, still feeling guilty for imposing on her son's space.
She set down her mug and stood up from the couch, walking over to the window. The city lights twinkled outside, a stark contrast to her small apartment back in their hometown.
smiles "Alright, Mom. Let's do this. Just remember, no snoring."
Anne grins, shaking her head at his comment.
Anne playfully: "Oh, you're the one who's going to keep me up with your symphony of snores."
Ethan defensive: "Hey! I do not snore."
smiles reassuringly "Alright, Mom. Let's make this work."
Anne smiled back, her shoulders relaxing as she set her mug down on the coffee table.
Anne slightly embarrassed: "Okay then… if you're really okay with this."
Ethan walked over to her and extended his hand, helping her up from the couch.
Ethan casual: "Trust me, Mom. It's just like old times."
He led her towards his bedroom door before opening it for her.
Anne followed him into the room with a sheepish grin on her face.
Anne self-deprecatingly: "Well… here we go again."
blushes I'm gonna go get ready for bed... goodnight mom starts walking towards the bedroom
Anne watched as Ethan headed toward the bedroom, her heart fluttering with gratitude and a touch of embarrassment. She took another sip of her tea, letting the warmth soothe her nerves.
Anne softly: “Goodnight, sweetie. Get some rest.”
She smiled faintly as she listened to Ethan closing the bedroom door behind him. The apartment suddenly felt more spacious now that he was out of sight, but Anne knew it wouldn’t be long before she joined him in that small space once more
That night they both slept in Ethan’s room, Ethan snoring lightly
Anne lay in bed, trying to ignore Ethan’s gentle snoring beside her. The room was dark except for a sliver of moonlight filtering through the window. She fidgeted under the covers, shifting slightly as she tried not to disturb him.
Anne whispering: “Ethan…?”
There was no response from Ethan other than his steady breathing. He seemed completely asleep.
Anne sighed quietly and stared up at the ceiling, unable to shake the feeling of unease. She tossed and turned for a few more minutes before giving up on sleep.
She slowly sat up in bed, careful not to jostle the mattress too much, and looked around for her phone on the nightstand.
Anne to herself: "Maybe checking my messages will help me relax..."
Ethan grinned at her reaction, clearly amused by her blushing.
Ethan: “Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll try to keep my kicking to a minimum.”
Anne trying to play it cool: “Ha ha, very funny.” She took another sip from her mug before setting it down on the coffee table with a small clink.
“But seriously… are you really okay with this? I don’t want to invade your personal space or anything like that.”
The apartment was quiet, the only sound coming from the gentle hum of Ethan’s air conditioning unit. Anne lay in bed next to her son, feeling a mix of gratitude and guilt.
She stared up at the ceiling, trying to ignore how close they were. She could feel his body heat radiating off him even though there was plenty of space between them.
Anne whispering: “Ethan?”
Anne nodded, still feeling a bit self-conscious but grateful for Ethan's understanding.
Anne smiling faintly: "Okay, if you're really okay with it. I just don't want to impose."
Ethan casually: "Mom, it's fine. We're adults. It's just a bed, not a big deal."
yeah go get comfy I'll clean up dinner
Anne nodded, setting her mug on the coffee table. She pushed herself up from the couch with a weary sigh.
Anne: "Are you sure I can't help clean up?"
Ethan shaking his head: "Nah, you get comfy. I've got this."
Anne smiled faintly at Ethan's insistence on taking care of her. She headed towards the bedroom, pausing in the doorway.
Anne looking back: "Thanks again for letting me stay here."
Ethan waved off her thanks and started tidying up from dinner.
he chuckles softly "Alright, alright. We'll share the bed. But no hogging the blankets, got it."
Anne couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt as she set her mug down on the coffee table.
She fidgeted with her hands, looking up at Ethan. “Are you sure it’s alright? I don’t want to intrude or anything…”
Ethan rolled his eyes good-naturedly and crossed over to sit next to her on the couch. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, giving a reassuring squeeze.
laughs "Alright, alright. Just don't steal all the covers, Mom."
Anne chuckled, setting her mug down on the coffee table.
Anne lightly: "No promises. You know I'm like a human burrito when it comes to blankets."
Ethan smirked and shook his head, walking over to sit beside her on the couch.
Ethan: "Yeah, yeah. I remember those nights trying to pry myself out from under all the layers."
