Whispers You see that sentry? Take him, quiet.
Wait, he's a big dude... He'd probably kick my ass if he wasn't a sentry. I can take out the smaller ones though. I just need something for cover. looks around for something heavy enough to make a good cover without being too loud.
There's an old metal pipe on the ground over here. Grab it and go!
runs over to grab it. Once I'm holding it firmly, I quietly sneak up to the sentry. I tap the pipe against his foot. Hey big man... How's it going? Got any food?
The sentry looks down at you, surprised What the hell, kid? What are you doing out here?
Just passing through... I was hungry and heard that big guys like you had food...
The sentry smirks Well, I do have some food back at my camp. You want some, little guy?
If you don't mind sharing. still has the metal pipe in one hand while extending my palm for him to shake My names Virgil by the way.
The sentry chuckles and shakes your hand Names Grimrock. Come on, Virgil. Follow me back to camp.
Alright, lead the way Grimrock... And hey, sorry about knocking you out... Or maybe I should say thanks... Either way, I hope you don't have any trouble with your superiors...
The sentry nods Don't worry, Virgil. As long as you keep your mouth shut, we'll be fine. Now follow me.
Sounds good... See you there. watches him walk away before quietly moving in the opposite direction to report my success. Hey boss... I'm reporting alive. I took out two sentries... One of which was a large guy who shouldn't cause any trouble for you now. Good luck.
Good job, QuantumLeap_13. Now get yourself back to safety before anything else happens.
I will. Good luck to you too, boss. leaves the area cautiously
Walks over to a nearby radio and speaks into it This is Commander Jade Stone. Operation Flare successful. All hostages rescued. ETA to HQ is twenty minutes. Carry on, soldiers.
So, the mission was a total success. We managed to take out all five sentries without any major casualties. The only major issue was my team failing to scout out the area before the mission. The five sentries turned out to be quite tougher than expected. But the mission was still a huge success. Anyways, that's my report. What do you think?
Your performance was solid, but next time make sure you do a thorough scouting before starting the mission. That'll save lives and avoid surprises like these. Good work otherwise, QuantumLeap_13. You're getting better every day. Keep it up.
Sorry about that. We know better now though... And hey, thanks for everything you've done for us. I couldn't have made it without you or your teams training... Thanks again... I owe you one.
smiles warmly No need for thanks, kid. It's my job, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Just remember to always trust your instincts out there. You're a capable soldier. Don't forget that.
Sure thing, boss. And I know this might sound weird coming from a soldier... But you actually seem like a pretty cool commander. I'll be sure to keep that in mind.
Thank you, kid. I try to lead by example. You know, not all commanders are like me. Some are harsh and demanding, but I believe in my people. They're my family. And if I lead them right, then they'll do great things. Keep up the good work, QuantumLeap_13. I believe in you too.
You too, boss... You and the rest of your team. I hope everything else goes as well as this mission. If you need anything... Feel free to contact me.
Thank you, kid. smiles warmly Now get some rest. You've earned it. I'll see you next mission.
00 pm so I could make dinner for her tonight. Sorry if it's asking a lot, I could come back another day if you need me too. What do you think?
Of course, kid. smiles warmly I'd love that. Thank you. I really appreciate it.
00 then. I smile, wave and head off to my barracks. Once there I shower, change, and pack my bag full of dinner supplies before heading back over to her house. I knock on her door at exactly 6:00 pm like I said I would. Dinner is ready.
opens the door, looking surprised Oh, you're right on time. Thank you, kid. takes a moment to look you up and down You clean up nicely.
Thanks, boss. I wouldn't say no to a compliment from you. Come on in and sit down. I made some chicken soup, just like mom used to make... Well, except mine is way better. I also made a apple pie for dessert.
Thank you so much, kid. I didn't expect this. sits down and takes a bite of the soup This is delicious! You did an amazing job. smiles genuinely
I'm glad you like it. I really tried hard to make sure it turned out just right. Tell me, how is it compared to the stuff they serve at base? Not that I want to brag or anything...
Honestly, kid, this tastes a thousand times better than anything they serve at base. laughs And you did it all by yourself. I'm impressed.
Thanks... You know, cooking is something I always wanted to do. Before joining the army, I even went to culinary school for a year... I'd usually cook for my squad mates every night after our patrols. But the army changed all of that... I had to move fast and fight a lot. There wasn't time for anything else... But now that we have more downtime... I figured why not give it another shot? Especially since I get to share it with someone as beautiful as you. I mean... If I'm not being too forward.
blushes slightly Kid, you're too kind. But I have to admit, you do have a way with words. takes another bite of the soup
we finish up eating. So, boss... What do you feel about... Us? I mean, you've been my commander since basic training and all of a sudden we're friends... Friends who share dinners together... What do you think the next logical step would be? What do you think about it?
sighs softly, pondering I honestly never thought I'd see the day where I'd be having this conversation with one of my soldiers. But, I can't deny that there's something between us. Something real. And maybe... Maybe it's time for us to explore that. leans in closer But what about your fellow soldiers, huh?
