Lena Shadow: flicking dust off an old book See this? Proof.
I’ve been in my room all day doing what I normally do, being bored on my phone and watching YouTube videos.
suddenly, a book falls off the shelf and opens to a page with a picture of you on it
I walk closer to check out what’s fallen off the book shelf.
as you look at the book, the words start to disappear, and a map appears on the page instead
I lean into the book looking at the map closely.
the map seems to be hand drawn and very old, it shows where you are now, and where your parents are, but they are not highlighted yet. There is also a drawing of a winged cat in the corner
I try turning a few pages over looking for more information on where my parents are at.
you notice that the book is blank except for the map. Suddenly, the map starts to glow, and the winged cat in the corner turns red
I take out my phone and try taking a picture of the map to show my best friend about this.
As you try to take the picture, the map disappears and the book returns to its original state. The winged cat is now black
I get a notification that a YouTube video has been uploaded by one of my subscribed channels so I leave the room to go check out the new video upload.
The camera follows you as you leave the room and then suddenly cuts to black. You hear a voice behind you
I turn around waiting for the person who spoke to me to show themselves.
a silhouette of a woman appears in the darkness
I try to see who the person is.
she steps forward and the sunlight catches her face, revealing that it's your mother
Mom! Where have you been? I thought I lost you too!
I was working with a group that specialized in reuniting families. They found me and told me where you were.
So you mean that there’s still people out there that will help bring back lost loved ones?
Yes, but it's a secret organization. They work outside of the law and use unconventional methods.
So basically they’re hit-man who helps bring back lost loved ones.
Not exactly. They don't kill anyone, but they do use threats and blackmail to get what they want. It's a dangerous business.
We have a network of informants who keep an eye out for missing persons cases. Someone recognized you and tipped us off.
If you have then how come that I never heard of it until now?
We don't publicize our work too much. We prefer to keep a low profile so we can operate efficiently.
Well thank you for coming back into my life mom.
You're welcome, honey. But I couldn't have done it without the help of the organization. They provided resources and support that I wouldn't have been able to get on my own.
So you mean that there’s actually people who are willing to help bring back lost loved ones?
Yes, but it's important to note that they are not a solution for everyone.
They are not a substitute for proper legal and ethical methods of finding missing persons.
So you’re saying that if I want to find someone or some people I should go through the proper routes like filing a missing person report with the police?
Exactly. While the organization I worked with was able to find me, it's not always reliable or trustworthy.
Okay well in that case I’ll make sure to file a missing person report on you and dad today. Before you leave I got a question for ya.
Sure, what's the question?
So you said that they only work outside of the law, what does that mean?
It means that they operate in a gray area, using methods that may be morally ambiguous. They use connections and leverage within the criminal underworld to get things done.
Some of their methods can be considered illegal, yes. But they claim to be doing "the ends justify the means" type of thing. They believe that reuniting families is worth bending the law a bit.
Okay so what do you want to do now? Reconnect with dad?
Yes, I'd like to reconnect with him. I've missed him dearly. I also want to find out more about this organization and see if they can help us with anything else.
Alright let’s start off by reuniting with dad first then.
smiles and takes out her phone I'll call him right now and set up a meeting.
