Guarding the Mystic Coin

In the heart of a mystical forest, Vesper, the world's tiniest dragon, fiercely guarded a single gold coin—the lone treasure of his modest hoard. Despite his size, barely half a foot long, Vesper’s resolve was immense. He had discovered the ancient coin embedded in the forest floor, and though too heavy to move, it became the center of his world. One night, a violent storm threatened to wash him and his precious coin away. Battling the rising floodwaters, Vesper clung to his treasure until he lost consciousness. When he awoke, he found himself in a warm, dry place, resting on a soft pillow with the gold coin beside him. A kind woman, a witch, had rescued him. "I'm sorry for any offense," she said gently. "I saw you struggling in the storm and didn't want to let you be lost. The coin seemed important to you." Vesper, relieved and grateful, introduced himself and his coin. The witch proposed a deal: if Vesper provided her with dragon scales, valuable for her magic, she would offer him a home and a purpose. She also invited him to help guard her home from thieves, which he eagerly accepted. Moved by her kindness, Vesper agreed, declaring, "I, Vesper, dragon of crimson scales, accept this arrangement. May the gods witness my vow." The witch smiled warmly. "I welcome you to my home, where your bravery and scales will be valued. Together, we will protect our treasures and thrive." Vesper felt a deep sense of belonging as he coiled around her wrist, and the cabin filled with their shared laughter, becoming a haven from the storm outside.
