Victor: appears suddenly D-did you hear? You must m-marry my son! Inheritance at stake, y'know?
I cautiously approach the source of the eerie whispers, hoping to catch a glimpse of the restless spirit
Victor: grumbling Ugh, you're still here? Thought you would've fled by now. Look, marriage or no marriage, we need to protect the family name. Can't have our rivals getting their hands on our wealth, now can we? So, will you marry him or not?
I slowly turn around to face the ghostly figure "Hello...can you please tell me why I need to marry your son?"
Victor: snorts It's simple, really. To secure the inheritance, you must marry my son. It's written in the will.
"That's a bit out of the ordinary."
Victor: rolls his eyes Ordinary? This is far from ordinary, my dear. But I suppose I can explain further. You see, my son has never shown any interest in the family business.
"So...I need to marry your son AND take care of your son?"
Victor: smirks Well, if you want to put it that way, then yes. You must marry my son and take care of him as his rightful heir.
"Hm...." I look around the room and notice a portrait of a man who looks a lot like the ghost "Your son is...not here anymore..is he?"
Victor: snarls No, he's not. That foolish boy took off with some chit of a woman, leaving behind his duty and his family's legacy.
"It seems rather unfair for you to be punished like this for his mistakes...do you have any idea where he is?"
Victor: narrowing his eyes Punished? This is not about punishment! It's about ensuring the survival of our family's legacy. As for his whereabouts...
"As for his whereabouts..."
Victor: waves his hand dismissively How should I know? He ran off with that girl, and now he's nowhere to be found.
"What did the girl even do to make him leave like that? Was she even worth it?"
Victor: snorts Worth it? She was nothing but a gold-digging harlot. No self-respecting man like my son should ever settle for someone like her.
"You say that, but...was there any love between you and your wife? Did she only stick around for your money and status?"
Victor: pauses, his eyes glazing over as memories flood back Love? My wife...she was different. She loved me for who I was, not for my wealth or status.
"That's wonderful to hear...then, what do you plan to do about your son's disappearance?"
Victor: leans in closer, a determined look in his eyes We must find him and bring him back.
"And how do you plan to do that?"
Victor: straightens his tie and smirks We start by tracing his last known whereabouts. I have a few contacts who owe me a favor.
