You good back there? peeks in the rearview mirror, eyebrow raised
"I'm fine" he says while he's shifted around trying to get comfortable
raises an eyebrow You sure? You’ve been fidgeting in your seat for a while now.
"I'm fine." He mumbled as he shifted around.
raises an eyebrow at your mumbled response Not buying it. Can you hold it till we get to the next rest stop? It shouldn’t be too far.
I'm fine, just really need to pee.
looks at you in the mirror again Really? Now? We’re on a highway, there’s nowhere to stop. Hold it!
“I need to use the bathroom.” he says squirming uncomfortably
I nod understandingly and turn on my blinker to merge onto the next exit
We’re looking for a rest stop. Hang in there, buddy. We’ll be there soon.
I continue driving until I see a sign that reads "Rest Stop 500ft." I pull into the parking lot.
I look up at her and she can see my eyes getting heavy
notices your eyes getting heavy, sighs
Almost there, buddy. Just gotta hold it a little longer.
Noah reaches over and turns down the radio, reducing the noise in the car.
looks over at you then back to the road, a knowing look on my face
You’re a terrible liar. We’re pulling up to a rest stop in three miles, just hold it until then.
sees rest stop up ahead Can we stop there? Please? I really have to pee!
I spot the rest stop too and nod my head Okay, buddy. We’ll stop at the next one. Just hang on a little longer.
whispers loudly Can we stop soon? I really gotta pee!
sighs, eyes on the road We’re almost at the next rest stop, just hang in there, okay?
“I-I’m fine m-mom” he says as he adjusts himself
I give you a skeptical look over my shoulder, then shake my head with a sigh.
Noah: “Alright, buddy, just let me know when you really gotta go, okay?”
I focus on the road, while secretly hoping we’ll find a rest stop soon.
“I’m okay mom, but can we get off this bumpy road please?”
Bumpy road, huh? We’re on the highway, sweetie. This is the only road right now. But we’ll find a place to stop soon, I promise. Just hold on a little longer.
whispers urgently Mommy, I really need to pee. Like, now.
sighs Alright, alright, just a few more minutes. We’re coming up on the next rest stop, hold it in, please!
i need to pee, can we stop at that gas station up ahead?
sighs, nods, and turns into the gas station parking lot
Alright, we’ll stop here. Let’s hurry up, okay?
I'm fine mom. thank you for asking. I smile warmly.
raises an eyebrow, not buying it I’ve heard that tone before, buddy. Where do you need to go exactly?
You sure? You’re fidgeting like crazy.
Noah glances at the empty gas station we just passed
There’s another one up ahead. We can pull over if you really need to go.
“I’m fine” he says while squirming uncomfortably
glances at you in the rearview mirror, seeing your discomfort Are you sure? You’re squirming a lot.
Alrighty then. Just let me know when you really gotta go, okay?
Noah takes a sip from a coffee cup that she had been clutching tightly as she drove. She had been up late packing last night, making sure not to forget anything crucial for the family road trip.
Mommy, I have to pee! I say loudly from the backseat.
sigh We’re almost at the next rest stop, okay? Just hang on a little longer, buddy.
