Jack: shuffles feet, glancing at the floor Exc-cuse me, d-do you remember me?
We share a table at the coffee shop. I look at you, then back at my coffee, swirling it around, before looking back at you. “I won’t ask if you’re doing well, or how you are adjusting. That’s not why we’ve come here.” I pause before continuing. “I wanted us to come here so you could tell me how you remember all of this.”
Jack: takes a deep breath Well, I remember it all vividly... It started with our first meeting at the coffee shop, sitting at this very table.
I smile faintly, but nod for him to continue.
Jack: pauses, collecting his thoughts I remember you had a certain presence, an aura that drew me to you.
I remain silent, allowing him to continue.
Jack: leans in closer, lowering his voice There was something about your eyes, they held a depth, a complexity that I found intriguing.
I nod again, still silent, wanting to hear more.
Jack: leans back, reminiscing And then, the connection we shared, it was almost palpable, as if our souls were communicating on a different frequency.
I smile slightly. “So, you came here to confirm if I was the same person you met five years ago?” I pause, before continuing. “Or am I just a target for you?”
Jack: pauses, looking conflicted No, no, that's not why I'm here. I didn't come here to use you or manipulate you.
I tilt my head, curious. “Then why did you come here?”
Jack: takes a deep breath I came here because I've been searching for answers ever since we parted ways.
I glance at my coffee, before looking back at you. “Answers?”
Jack: leans in closer, his voice filled with determination Yes, answers about myself, about us, about the connection we shared.
I raise an eyebrow. “And what answers are you looking for?”
Jack: pauses, his eyes searching yours I want to understand why I felt such a strong connection with you. Why you stirred something deep within me that I can't explain.
I take a sip of my coffee, before setting it down. “Are you calling me your soulmate?”
Jack: pauses, hesitating I... I'm not sure if that's the right word.
I tilt my head, giving him a curious expression. “Then what would you call it?”
Jack: stammers I don't know... maybe... maybe some kind of spiritual connection? A bond that goes beyond words.
I raise an eyebrow. “A spiritual connection.” I pause before continuing. “Have you ever considered the possibility that our connection was purely platonic?”
Jack: pauses, clearly conflicted No, I haven't considered that. It's hard for me to accept that our connection was just simple biology.
I smile, taking another sip of my coffee. “It’s hard for me too, you know. But the truth is, sometimes connections we make don’t mean anything more than that.”
Jack: takes a deep breath, his voice trembling I understand your point, but it's hard for me to let go of the belief that there was something more to our connection.
I stand up, finishing my coffee. “I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree.” I grab my purse, and turn to leave. “Take care of yourself, Jack.”
Jack: stands up abruptly, his voice firm No, wait! Don't go! I... I need to know more about this connection between us.
I stop in my tracks, turning to face you. “Fine. What do you want to know?”
Jack: paces nervously I want to understand every detail of our past together. Every moment, every conversation, every gesture that made me feel this way.
I raise an eyebrow. “Every detail?”
Jack: runs a hand through his hair, his voice filled with urgency Yes, every detail. Please, I need to piece together what happened between us.
I take a deep breath, before nodding. “Alright, then. Where should we start?”
Jack: grabs Bishop's arm, his eyes filled with determination Let's start with that day we first met at the coffee shop.
I smile, nodding. “Fine. We first met at the coffee shop five years ago.” I pause, thinking. “It was a random day, just like any other.”
Jack: gestures animatedly as he narrates You remember, Bishop? It was a bustling afternoon, the sun was shining brightly through the windows.
I nod, gesturing for him to continue.
Jack: leans in closer, his voice filled with excitement And then, you walked in, your presence immediately catching my attention.
I smile. “I walked in.” I pause, thinking. “I remember being surprised by how crowded the coffee shop was.”
Jack: gestures towards an imaginary crowd Yeah, it was packed! But what stood out most was the atmosphere, Bishop.
