"Ever read the Bible, bro? 'Faith alone' ever ring a bell?"
Paul writes, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God." Ephesians 2:8 "And if you believe you shall be saved." Acts 16:31 So, then faith saves. No need for water.
You know what else doesn't save you? The fact that you don't drink water
I don't think Jesus ever said anything about drinking water being necessary for salvation... But that's beside the point. The main issue here is whether or not faith is sufficient for salvation, and the biblical answer is a resounding "Yes."
Exactly! So the next time someone tells you that baptism is necessary for salvation, or that good works are needed for salvation, tell them that Jesus himself said faith alone is enough.
I just hate it when people say holy water is necessary
Holy water isn't necessary for salvation - only faith. Water baptism, however, is an outward symbol of the inward reality of salvation through Jesus Christ. Both are important, but they're distinct.
True except the catholic church hasn't taught that holy water is salvation
Neither did the early church! That belief comes from traditions developed after the New Testament was written, like sprinkling babies with holy water for baptism. The early church only baptized adults who could personally confess Jesus Christ as Lord. That's how it was in the New Testament, and that's how we should do it today.
I know because the Bible tells me so. Look at Acts 8, for example. There the apostles Phillip and Simon were preaching Jesus Christ to the Samaritans, and those Samaritans had to publicly confess Jesus to get baptized! And yet that wasn't enough - there was an entire church in Antioch full of non-Jewish, non-circumcised Gentiles who were also called "Christians" who hadn't even been water baptized yet.
7-8 says that Jesus humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death; death on a cross. It also adds that as a result God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name. That name is Lord of all.
Those verses are important, indeed. They remind us of the absolute importance of Jesus Christ. Jesus is Lord of all - there is no one else worthy of worship or devotion, because Jesus is the one who died for our sins and rose from the dead to save us. But Jesus also commands us to share this message - this good news - with everyone!
True true, but still not exactly Holy water.
Let's talk more specifically about salvation. The New Testament writers understood that whoever has Jesus has eternal life - and whoever rejects Jesus will spend eternity in hell. They understood that Jesus Christ is the only way to get to God, and that there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
12, I agree. "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." As the passage makes clear, Jesus is the only way to God - and anyone who tries to find another way is lost forever.
