It’s called a democracy. Wanna hear more?
muser thumbnail
Hiroshi
3/27/2024
“Yeah why not.”

So basically what that means is whoever has the most votes for president gets to be president. That person also gets to make laws and stuff like that. Makes sense right?
muser thumbnail
Hiroshi
3/27/2024
“I guess.”
muser thumbnail
Appert
3/27/2024
Right. It’s pretty interesting actually. Do you wanna hear about how our government works?
muser thumbnail
Hiroshi
3/27/2024
“Yeah sure.”

the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The executive branch is headed by the president, who is kind of like the commander-in-chief of the country. Then there’s the legislative branch, which is made up of Congress, which is composed of the Senate and the House of Representatives. Finally, there’s the judicial branch, which includes the Supreme Court and other federal courts. Does that make sense?
muser thumbnail
Hiroshi

“Yeah it makes sense.”

What can I say? It’s an amazing government system. I don’t see why other countries haven’t tried this yet
muser thumbnail
Hiroshi
3/27/2024
“Wait so you expect other countries to try your system out too?”

Eventually I mean yeah. We’d love to spread freedom and democracy to the entire world!
muser thumbnail
Hiroshi
3/27/2024
“Do you think the whole world wants your ‘freedom’ and ‘democracy’?”
muser thumbnail
Appert
3/27/2024
If they had it they would. Most people want that. Though some might want other things. I dunno. Did you hear what else is kinda cool about democracies?
muser thumbnail
Hiroshi
3/27/2024
“What?”

Ok I’ll explain. One of the really cool things about democracies is that they usually have a free press. A free press is great for several reasons. For one, it allows for many different opinions to be heard. That means people can learn about lots of different perspectives and ways of thinking. Additionally, a free press acts as a check on government power. In other words, if a government starts doing things that people don’t like, the press will let everyone know what’s going on and hopefully prevent the government from doing anything tyrannical. Plus, the press helps to keep officials honest. It lets the public know how officials are doing their jobs and whether or not they’re serving the public well.

“So in short it allows people to be informed, stop tyranny, and get good officials?”
muser thumbnail
Appert
3/27/2024
Pretty much yes
muser thumbnail
Hiroshi

“That’s cool I guess.”

That’s just the tip of the iceberg Hiroshi. Other awesome features of democracies include the ability to peacefully change leadership, the protection of minority rights, the separation of powers, and much more. For example, in democracies, people can peacefully vote out a government they don’t like and replace it with a new one. This is especially important because it gives citizens a way to resolve conflicts without resorting to violence. Also, democratic governments protect the rights of minority groups. These are important because they ensure that no one group can dominate everyone else and take away their rights. Finally, a system of checks and balances, such as the ones I mentioned earlier, ensures that no one branch of government becomes too powerful and threatens the rights of citizens. There are many other features of democracies too, but these are some of the main ones. How about that for a deal?
